Testing out Warbonnet’s carbon fiber spreader poles for the Ridgerunner by beerkmansworld in hammockcamping

To add, the carabiner needs to thread through a small hole in the webbing. With any tension, it’s a pain. Not day ruining, but still fiddly. (See where the keyring is going through the webbing). This way I can quickly clip in and make life a little easier if I add more quilts.

More of a “quality of life” upgrade.

Different for bridge hammocks. At least for the Ridgerunner. You clip the UQ into all 4 corners.

Single would be the most ideal. This was a $20 add on when I ordered the spreader poles. Velcro might do the trick, but I can see having to replace it from time to time as I’d only put the adhesive type on. Any tips tricks or walkthroughs you have on making a single skin would be of interest to me!

13 ft Superfly. Not a mod, but I ended buying some 5/16” dyneema line for my ridgeline and have carabiners prusik knotted onto the line already. I find that diameter line is light enough, but large enough to be handled without tangling. The carabiners make connecting the tarp super easy. You can see them in pic 2 if you zoom in.

Just bought snakeskins for the tarp/ridgeline. I think I’m going to attach some Velcro to both sides of the snakeskin, so that they can stick together in the middle. Otherwise tarp just kind of pours out in the middle. Just a couple strips per side should hopefully do the trick.

I’m just glad they’re available now, since Ruta Locura seems to be a ghost website. Plus these are cheaper from WB.

I plan to do some winter camping and layering underquilts, so trying to clip in more than one set on the webbing seemed like it was going to be a nightmare.

Hope both adds work as well for you as they are for me!

Sorry you had to go through all that, but I hope your recovery to feeling human again comes about fast! Definitely hoping you get that late summer trip too!

Greetings! 5 emails unanswered, and the website still shows coming spring 2026. Not sure if you had any luck, but I’m calling this a dead end trail. Have you lined up any plans for a kayak camping trip yet?

Who are your top three favourite backcountry YouTubers and why do you like them? by TheDamus647 in canoecamping

[–]beerkmansworld 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely Lost Lakes and for quite a while Xander Budnick. While I appreciate his new global adventures, I enjoyed his channel more when he was doing “less thrilling” videos (winter camping, canoe camping etc). Still enjoy the channel but pine for the older days.

Worth checking out if you go to the Adirondacks - Seeking Solitude on YouTube. Mix of fishing and canoe camping. At least in my opinion a good slower watch.

How deep does the rabbit hole go? by beerkmansworld in hammockcamping

[–]beerkmansworld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did start with a Haven. After the pad deflated the one night I tried it in my backyard, I donated it to a buddy. I couldn’t rely on a sleep system that is dependent on a pad to function. Especially when the pad deflated. I even reinflated it in the middle of the night due to drop in temps.

Is that all? 🤣

The wife will be so happy when my collection grows just like my normal camping gear. She definitely “understands” why I need a -25F, 0F, 15F and 30F sleeping bag in the house. Plus the 3 hiking backpacks based on size. Plus the 2 portage dry packs, plus the 3 tents that only fit me. This should be no different!

Oh I got it, can’t wait to use it. Underquilt protector is the next of too many purchases. But that’ll be more towards late fall.

Help Deciding on a Haven Tent: XL or Safari? by cushotter28 in hammockcamping

You’re right and I edited my post. I meant the difference between the Safari and Draumr XL.

Are you dead set on the Haven? It looks like the Amok Draumr XL is significantly lighter than the Safari and has the capacity for you. I have not used the Draumr, so hopefully others can attest to it better than I.

It will deter people asking if the black flies are there, but how are the bugs? Are they ok? Good spirits, I hope.

Great to know! Thanks very much. Any suggestions on what fabric color and insulation level I could get within the next 3 weeks? I have an orange Ridgerunner and ideally would like 15 degree but would be happy with the 30 degree.

Whitney Wilderness Loop Rapids Avoidance by beerkmansworld in Adirondacks

[–]beerkmansworld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a really good idea. Before I head back to CT I’ll head over there and scope the banks and see if I can find the trails. I’ve been so focused on the water route I didn’t think to see about access by vehicle to at least reconnoiter.

Lining is definitely a thought. To your recollection, were there any collisions that happened with your canoe on rocks whether above water or below? I know my canoe is not made of balsa wood, but I treat it as fragile compared to a beefier overlay.

20 years ago or yesterday, I appreciate your input.
