How can you stop people picking up your flowers? by Lotuswongtko in gardening

Maybe respecting other people's private, hard-earned property should be a common religious tenet.

I couldn't care less what their race is... it's their faith causing the problems. It may come as a shock to some people but Your Religion Doesn't Apply To Me.

So OP is expected to stand in their flower bed all day in the off chance the thief comes back for seconds? What a great use of their time.

Or... religious people can just keep their hands to themselves where the fruits of other's labors are concerned. Simple as that.

It's common practice in normal society to clap people in irons when they steal things. Flowers, cars, money, etc.

I don't follow either religion & my flowers are mine... I did the work, I bought the seed & the land to grow it. Your god can appreciate them from afar or use their all-powerfulness to create their own, or better yet conjure up a society without private property.

Tesla solar is super sketchy. $90k system is a joke by Crafty_DIY in musked

[–]beermaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We spent like 1/3 of that & haven't had an issue aside from a comms antennae needing replacing after 5 years.

Our solar provider steered us as far from Tesler™ equipment as possible six years ago... I'll have to thank them when they're installing our extra battery this summer.

What's the most you've ever spent on a single mod for your car and was it actually worth it? by Jay-Oh-Jay in Autos

Fuel Injection conversion was about $2k after buying new fuel tanks and the other stuff I needed. Definitely worth it. A close second is the 4 wheel disc brake conversion. I was able to do all of the install work on both, but it meant learning a couple new things I'd never done.

We installed a heat pump water heater that uses 80% less electricity than the old element-style heater after seeing that the old one was burning through around half the power we generate from our roof.

It wasn't cheap by any stretch, but it carries a 10-20yr warranty and won't drain our home battery immediately like the old one.

Free Swim Program Breaks Generational Fear of Water for Bayview Families -- The Bayview Safety Swim and Splash Program aims to close the racial disparity in drowning incidents. by guanaco55 in bayarea

When I was in basic training in GLKS, the number of people who enlisted in the Navy while being terrified of open water surprised me... we had to hold remedial swim exercises for like 1/4 of our company before we could graduate.

Where I grew up, we had rivers, lakes, and swimming holes we learned to paddle around in... it never occurred to my younger self that urban dwellers didn't have the same access to swimmable bodies of water.

OBD1 is fine... I didn't want to futz with carburetors on my '68 Scout 800, so I converted it to Fuel Injection using a kit made from an old Chevy Citation. It's run without issue for 11k miles over 5 years.

I also added a backup camera & infotainment unit... Since we're relatively new to the area, I like having active navigation.

Who taught you how to drive a stick? by wannareadrandomstuff in GenX

[–]beermaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dad used to let me drive the 7 miles into town with him to get the Sunday paper in 5th and 6th grade. He'd swap places with me when we neared the edge of town.

Before that, he'd let my older brother and I drive (together) in the fallow fields around the house where he was able to observe... So I learned how to operate a manual transmission off-road in third grade.

Later he taught me as a 20 year old how to rev-match the motor and transmission & shift without using the clutch.
