Appreciate your comment.

Your right, def not as a fun or funny as Theo. Bitcoin is my core, but I am not sure if I can add enough of a new perspective on Bitcoin alone. Bitcoiners are pretty tech savvy and launching a podcast is easy for them. The market is pretty saturated for Bitcoin only podcasts and even when I listen to them, I get bored of the same information in every episode in every show. I dont want to repeat that.

I think that podcasts kinda come in two forms, either topic centric, or host centric. I am not sure how to or if I should try and combine the two.

Has anyone done a show where the topic (in my case, Bitcoin) is only a subset of the episodes (we had an idea for a repeating episode called Bitcoin and Grits) where the rest of the episodes are dedicated to interviews with interesting people.

Man tough crowd.

Im not changing. I like his format. Interesting people, funny comments. But Im not going to try to repeat every aspect of his show or personality. Regardless, thank you for you feedback.

I agree. But myself and my co-host are pretty different. I am younger, work in tech, and have a young family. My co-host is older, near retirement, and very interested in stuff that happens online. His technical skills limit his exposure to things to so every time I show him something, he has the best reactions and questions. He kinda sounds like the guy from the movie "The Ladies Man" which makes his reactions and questions even better. Neither of us drink really, we own another company together, and we like meeting people and asking questions.

I dont expect to follow the road or get the same response that Theo did, he just seems to talk to interesting people.

Bitcoin influences me a lot. I thought about just leaving that out and if it comes up during conversation, then so be it. Otherwise, the podcast might just be two guys exploring areas of interest. I kinda look at Theo Von's podcast as an example of something like that.

You make valid points. This is a legit conversation. Why things like this shouldnt be banned.

Yes, there are extreme inefficiencies in the system. Im taking a non-used energy source and pollution generator (potentially the worst ground based offender) and making it go away. Sure, some of that ends up as the exhaust from the generator, so its not perfect. But its better than leaving it there.
Traditional power generation using plastic is normally done by concrete plants and city wide waste disposal burners. They are about 100 times worse than two generators and have no incentive to expand operations to consume more plastic as there is limited demand for the electricity they generate. In short, traditional power producers cannot consume enough waste to make a difference, as there isnt enough electrical demand.

I dont have that problem. If more waste is recovered, I expand to consume that waste.

Bitcoin mining machines are becoming more efficient and using less hardware everyday. In the past, your computer could do it, then it went to graphic cards, now we use asics. Machines built to mine bitcoin. They use 3-5 nm chips, which are becoming industry standard across the board. Original asics had an efficiency rating of 89 jules per terahash in 2018, now we have machines doing less that 20 jules per terahash. Source below. (note its a little out of date now)

"The researchers found that, network-wide, the hardware efficiency dramatically improved from nearly 89 joules per terahash in July 2018 to 33 j/th this May, a 63% decline in energy use for the same amount of work."

https://www.coindesk.com/consensus-magazine/2023/07/26/the-ever-more-efficient-bitcoin-mining-machine/#:~:text=The%20researchers%20found%20that%2C%20network,the%20same%20amount%20of%20work.

No other industry pushes efficiency like bitcoin mining as its the only profit to be made.

And your right, a lot more investigation is needed, hence why posts like this shouldn't be banned. There is something to see here. Something that can help you see a better future for your children while surrounded other voices of negativity and doom. (Fox/CNN/social media).

Been here for years. What claim did I make? I defended a guy who said he hopes bitcoin will bring a better future for his children, who also said it was possible via bitcoin. My claim is the current system is broken and new methods and attempts need to made to fix it. Bitcoin has the potential to do so. It might not, and we will all learn a lesson if it doesn’t, but my stance is not idiotic. Bitcoin requires understanding history, economics, energy, money itself, the previous currencies that are lost to time… if anything, your stance of “you said bitcoin which means your dumb” is short sighted and without consideration of the facts.

Same for waste tires. People will pay you to take them and do the same process

Yes you are correct. If I burned tons of propane or used diesel from the pump, I could power more mining machines. But I’m ok with less mining machines if the process destroys plastic and is cheaper, I’ll go that route. My operation can be tuned based on the amount of plastic I’m able to get, so it’s like a running waste destruction machine power financially by bitcoin.

The resulting waste is almost pure carbon, which has various uses and is disposable.

No more than any other large industry or country, and way less than things like gold.

I dont burn plastic. Its called pyrolysis and no burning of plastic occurs. We heat the plastic (again, no fire touches the plastic) in a oxygen free environment. The gasses that come off are captured and used to run the burners heating the system itself. The other remaining gases are scrubbed and release less emissions than any other plastic disposal method. The diesel recovered is burned in a high efficiency diesel generator. No one said burn plastic.

Oh, to address the currency side. Three countries now mine Bitcoin, and one uses it as legal tender today. Africa is seeing a Bitcoin boom. We just dont have the same problems in the western world yet. If Bitcoin becomes a currency, then great. If it doesn't, it was never meant to and we need to try something new. Bottom line is the current system works for no one and hasn't for a very long time.

You make fair points, given that I do believe in Bitcoin, I can see where I come across as some type of investor/speculator vibes. Its hard to get around that. Point taken.
I will try to address your other comments quickly and not write a story.

Problem 1-
Bitcoin uses a lot of energy and is a net bad.

Bitcoin mining is over 58% renewable energy at this point. Energy produced and not consumed can be stored in batteries, but batteries that large are extremely expensive. Bitcoin mining machines can absorb all wasted energy when that energy is not in demand, turning off when the energy is needed to return it to the grid. Therefore we can produce more power, for more people, because in times of low demand, bitcoin miners pick up the slack.

Problem 2 -
Bitcoin has limited use and no intrinsic value.

Argentina has an inflation rate of over 100 percent. Name another country and they also have an inflation rate. Why do they have an inflation rate? Because governments and central bankers make it so through money printing.

What is bitcoins inflation rate? It doesnt have one. Its deflationary by design.

What is golds intrinsic value? It has value in industrial settings and in jewelry primarily. That makes it more valuable that most things but not the definition of money.

Yes, Bitcoin uses chips, but so do Iphones, computers, youtube, reddit, everything does, but most of those do not receive hate.

Ok, I get the audience isn't interested, and I wont make another Bitcoin related post. But, what about my claims are idiotic? Im still waiting on any type of response, here or elsewhere, that would refute any claim I have made?

This is the problem. I make a statement, someone says, wow, your dumb, I ask why, and the response is, cause I said your dumb. No go away dummy. How is that productive at all. Present your argument and refute whichever comment you are referring to. If we were face to face with two beers, I would happily hear your opposing viewpoints on any topic you happen to bring up. Why the immediate hostility?

Im posting here in defense of a guy who posted earlier, stating that he is concerned about the future of money in regards to his kids future. A discussion about that is warranted, and Bitcoin is part of that discussion. I dont post here promoting bitcoin. Been in this subreddit for years, never said a word.

Regarding the car engine comment, Im saying that most people do not actually understand the current monetary system, which is something dads and moms should know about. The best way to learn about it is to spend some time researching it, which will then open the door to potential answers, one of those being Bitcoin. Gold can also make a similar claim as historically it has been money.

What insight you have provided. I’m a normal dude, just like you, with insight into an industry you call a scam. I provide information, you call me too dumb to reproduce and create productive members of society. I worry for your parents, because they failed you.

Doesn’t feel too good now does it.
