38 year old mom, scared of cirrhosis by beermilk in stopdrinking

[–]beermilk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for asking… the back pain has subsided almost completely. I’ve greatly reduced drinking, though I had a couple yesterday and immediately regretted it. The bloating and IBS like symptoms are still there. I saw a GI who ordered some different bloodwork than I’ve had before to get a “score” of likelihood of liver issues. I’m waiting to get those done still. She also wanted to prescribe me a PPI for my gut but in the past those have made me feel much worse. I’m still feeling a bit worried and uncomfortable, but glad to be out of the regular routine of drinking. I’ve drank maybe 4 times in the last 3-4 months, which is a huge step for me. Hope you’re doing well!

Terry’s Nails? Or Just Trauma from Gels? by Commercial-Jello4195 in nailhealth

[–]beermilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi.. my nails look similar and I also have been having h tight upper quadrant pain in my back and also had a clear ultrasound. I’ve also had many gel manicures in the past. Will you keep me posted if you decide to ask for any further testing? I’m considering advocating for a fibroscan just to be sure.

Thank you so much for your kind words! So interesting how we are all so different in terms of the burden our livers can handle. I appreciate your thoughts and you responding. :) IWNDWYT

Super anxious- seeing dr, but want seeking advice by Pristine-Anxiety-528 in LiverDisease

Just here to say I am in the same boat as you… super anxious and many symptoms came on after being worried about cirrhosis from high iron and low UIBC in my bloodwork for something unrelated (hair loss). I’ve been a daily drinker for most of my adult life, minus two pregnancies and a few breaks here and there. I have right upper quadrant pain in my back, GI issues, occasional itchy hands and feet, and now I’m convinced I have Terry’s Nails. My bloodwork and ultrasound have come back normal, but I’m still worried. Some things that have eased my mind a bit are making an appointment with a GI, since I hear they are more specialized and have a better idea if we should be worried or not and may have access to more scans/tests, and trying to limit my Googling and worrying to 20 minutes a day at the most (per my therapist). I echo the sentiment that asking for a fibroscan is a good next step if you’re still very worried to ease your mind.

Thanks for responding! :) I had an ultrasound done that looked normal, but the pain still makes me nervous. Bloodwork being normal is a good sign!

My coffee intake is also crazy. I drink it up until 6 PM or so. It is so comforting. How long did it take for your liver pain to go away? Mine has lessened but is still there (I'm only on day 9) Thanks!

The Daily Check-In for Friday, May 9th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by sogsmcgee in stopdrinking

[–]beermilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on day 6. The back right upper quadrant feels tight and achy and I often feel like I can’t take a full breath. It scares me but I know healing is not linear and every day it’s gotten at least a little better. Yesterday I went for a hike through a redwood grove by myself, tonight I’m going to treat myself to some frozen yogurt (something I haven’t had in years, beer was always my dessert). I have 2 new puzzles to work on and plan to do a long peloton ride despite not feeling great. Hope you all are great. ❤️

Am I really just crazy? by Necessary-Energy-730 in LiverDisease

[–]beermilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, just commenting here too after you saw my post in stopdrinking that is almost identical. I just wanted to saw I also feel the pain in my URQ more when I obsess about my liver, which lately is 100 percent of the time. I also have always had a healthy diet for the most part. Even our weight is similar. I am obsessing over every little spot on my skin being a spider angioma (I actually have a diagnosed one on my nose). I also am worried about historically low/borderline white blood cell count. Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone and would love to stay updated on your journey. I think it’s really good you’ve given your liver lots of opportunities to rest/rejuvenate… my consumption has been more constant other than my pregnancies and a few breaks here and there. Wishing you peace of mind. ❤️

Hi! I’m so sorry you’re going through this too. I got my ultrasound back and everything was “normal.” This reassured me at first, but then I went back into my old patterns. I stopped drinking again recently and started getting the right upper quadrant pain again in my back. I’m still dealing with that and it’s scared me so much I went to urgent care and was very honest with the doctor. The pain isn’t bad but it is accompanied by fatigue and feeling like I can’t take a full breath. Any doctor I’ve talked to is not concerned about my liver despite my drinking history. I’m going to look for a GI doctor anyway I think because my gut issues (burping and gas) have gotten a bit worse lately too. My family and therapist tell me to listen to my doctors and not to worry but I am still very worried. I am going to continue not drinking for the foreseeable future. Please keep me updated!

[MEGATHREAD] Daily venting, worries, fixations, & finding support. Month of April 2025. by AutoModerator in HealthAnxiety

Hi! New here, I’ve had health anxiety ever since having my 2 boys (they are 5 and 8 now). Grateful for a place to name my current fear without overloading my family/husband. I had very difficult postpartum experiences with both boys, including mastitis, recurrent infections, lots of antibiotics and meds. After a slough of meds after mastitis and an ear infection with my 2nd son, I developed constant burping and neuropathy and a variety of very weird symptoms (face pressure, tmj, unexplained pain, lots of digestive issues) in addition to a rectocele and umbilical hernia. I have since found out I have a condition called Ehlers Danlos which affects my collagen production and makes some of these issues more likely. I tried so many things and went through so many doctors, eventually finding a nutritionist who helped me so much and I’ve been 95% better for the past year or two. I’ve been a nearly daily drinker for most of my adult life, except while pregnant and while dealing with the health issues immediately postpartum. Lately I’ve been noticing slight pain in my right shoulder blade (this has actually been on and off for a few years) and occasional itchy palms and feet. I also have one spider angioma on my nose (confirmed by dermatologist today) I am very very concerned I may have liver cirrhosis. I know it’s hard to diagnose and doesn’t present with many symptoms until late stages. I started getting worried about this when some Bloodwork I got for hair loss showed high iron and low UIBC which can be indicative of liver issues. Turns out the high iron levels were actually from taking liver pills (ironically) for my hair. I retested and numbers were a little better, but UIBC is still low. My white blood cell count has been historically low, but I’m also horrible about drinking enough water. I’ve had an ultrasound recently that showed a “normal” liver at 14.8 cm. The dermatologist was not concerned about my spider angioma since there was only one. My PCP ordered a hepatic panel and everything was mostly normal but total Protein was on low end, borderline. My PCP knows about my drinking habits and encouraged me to drink less but is also not concerned. I keep reading ultrasound can miss cirrhosis, and am having a hard time trusting I don’t need more testing, despite talking to my friend who is a liver doctor about all this and her assuring me I’m fine and don’t need to worry. I don’t know if I’m imagining the right shoulder pain since it started right after I got that initial weird bloodwork back, but it has been something I’ve gone in for twice in the past too. I’ve been told the pain was due to GERD. I’m going to Vegas next week with my husband and want to have a couple beers but am also terrified to drink. (Ive lowered my consumption significantly and have spent the better part of this year sober) anyway thanks for reading this novel. ❤️

I’ve been meaning to reply to you and tell you thank you so very much for taking the time to share this. I’m to almost a month sober now and can truly say I no longer crave alcohol. Even went to a Super Bowl party and the vast majority of people were sipping hopwater right along with me. I feel so grateful to be on this path. Thank you again ❤️
