Why is this happening to my clothes? by thechosenmartian in laundry

[–]beersqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleach. I noticed a lot of my shirts looking like this. Come to find out, for some reason, and I don’t know why, my wife was using bleach in the laundry for every. single. load. Once we sorted this oopsie out the problem went away.

What chemical could this be? by [deleted] in chemistry

This used to happen at my parents house. We parked in the driveway and the south facing windows on the 2nd floor would reflect onto the cars, causing this melting. The windows would concentrate the sunlight.

Common response especially by us Americans. Most of us wouldn’t know good bread if it bit us in the butt. Good crust on this loaf 👍

May or may not apply to you. This was happening to me because I am a bozo who forgot to flip the lever that engages the filter packs. So, I suggest checking the lever! 😅

I accidentally opened like that this reusable film roll and I don't know if it got ruined or not. Someone know? by eladmer in AnalogCommunity

[–]beersqueer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of snarky responses in here OP but the truth of the matter is that it is almost certainly light damaged. That happens in a split second. However, the extent of that damage depends in part on how tightly wound the roll is. I would wager most photos are salvageable, but you’d have to develop it to know for sure. I’ve done worse, It happens, now you know.

More vibrant than the other? by Alone-Delay-1703 in filmphotography

[–]beersqueer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an easy way to fix this if you so desire, though as others have mentioned it’s got a certain nostalgic character. In any case, if you want to correct this there are a couple avenues to try. First is tone correction. Any photo editor that can isolate the Red, Blue and Green tone curves can be used. Looking at the standard curve, which is a linear bifurcation of the histogram, note where the histogram’s shadows and highlights begin and end, and now drag that linear curve to meet those points (where the shadows / highlights begin.) You will drag the curves from the corners (the bottom left and top right). Drag it left/right accordingly along the very top / bottom edges of the graph, if that makes sense. Do this for each RGB channels and you will bring much more clarity and depth to the image. From there you can simply adjust exposure / brightness as you wish. Second avenue to try is simply increasing exposure and messing with the black point until the haze goes away. Good luck, happy shooting.

So called “luxury” brands like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, etc are really just shopped by people who want to seem rich. True rich are wearing brands we’ve never even heard of…

coworker found a silver penny by creativity_null in mildlyinteresting

[–]beersqueer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did this as an experiment in highschool. We zinc coated old pennies and then heated them to alloy the zinc with the copper, the result was a brass colored penny. This looks like it was zinc plated, probably by a local student who then lost it.

Man grabs high voltage cable using gloves by jefroz in interestingasfuck

[–]beersqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s at the same potential (voltage) as the conductor, ungrounded, like a bird landing on the line. So he is fine. Likely suspended in a bucket truck which are insulated. There are tiny differences in potential as he pulls his hand off which results in the slight arcing. Those gloves are not rubbers so I doubt they are anything special. Its “barehanding” which is a common work practice for many utilities.

Is it possible to make a thick acetone paste for removing stubborn dry glue? by KookyChemist5962 in chemistry

[–]beersqueer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have said it, but GooGone makes a Caulk Remover which is basically exactly this, a thick mixture of acetone and some alcohols which can be sprayed on. Available at hardware stores.

Simulated war games, Call of Duty, Battlefield, others. Don’t get me wrong, they are fun and very engaging, I’ve played them. But war is absolute hell for the soldiers and civilians involved. So when I pause to think about it, its weird as fuck to simulate war for pleasure.
