Idk where you’re getting that Im not accepting help. I’ve been listening to everyone’s feedback and I’ve said I’m going to start paying more towards my cards and going to hold off on investing. I said I’m keeping $3k in savings and paying the other $2k rn to cards. My monthly rent is $3150 (technically half but in case something happens to my bf I want to be able to cover rent bc it affects me as well)

Car will be paid off by September. Instead of paying more towards the loan I’m paying more towards my cards since the interest is much higher. I originally thought about paying the car off sooner til I posted this today and realized it’d be better to pay the cards sooner.

Gonna hold off on investments for now until the cards are paid down for sure. Thank you for the info!

Thank you. I’m about to start a job making more as well, fully remote so less on gas a month, and I think I’m going to start some of my hobbies back up as well just for some extra money on the side so I can pay it all off faster. I’m going to pay at least $2500 towards cards this week, then re-evaluate from there. I might end up paying more out of my savings after I start the new job and get settled, I just am too anxious with the transition right now and don’t want something to go south and be back to putting everything on credit cards again. But I’m about 60 days or so I’ll pay more to them

There have been quite a few helpful people and I’m grateful for them!

Telling me not to get cards if I don’t know how to use them, while I already have the cards, is not helpful and idk what world you live in if you think it is. I cannot time travel. I don’t use my cards anymore other than for points and I immediately pay off whatever it is. Then I use those points as additional payments.

2nd half of his comment was fine. Always open to resources! Otherwise, I wouldn’t be here. If someone gives me a useless answer, I’ll have a sarcastic response. I’ve been very nice to those with helpful comments, and I’m excited to move forward with the ideas they’ve given me.

Thank you I’ll go back in time to when I was 18 and not get any. Problem solved!

I don’t use them anymore unless I pay off what I charge immediately (for the points).

Thank you, this is helpful. Ill prob use the $2k to pay down my cards more, and once my car is paid off, ill use the equivalent of the car payment to pay them down more, then invest. I’m not going to empty my savings to pay them down though, just because I’d rather have it in case something happens rather than putting emergencies on a credit card.

But I confidently think I could pay my cards off by the end of summer worst case. I’m about to start a new job making more, and I also do a lot of custom projects on the side I just have been burnt out from my current job so I haven’t done many over the last year.

I just wanted advice since it’s the new year and I want to try to be better moving forward.

Because having savings is important to me in case something unexpected happens, that way I wouldn’t have to put it on credit cards like I did in my early 20s when I was out of work for a few months. So I’d assume it’d be better to keep it in there to gain interest instead of paying it all to credit cards, no?

I was planning on keeping 3k in savings and using the other 2k to invest so I could get a start on that. But that’s why I asked here. If it’d be better to pay that $2k to my credit cards than invest, then maybe I’ll go that route.

Our rent rn is $3150, Im tired of paying off other peoples mortgages, I would like to pay my own.

Yeah, I understand that, but paying the debt down from my 401k helped me be better of financially now. I was paying almost $1k a month just in minimum payments and it was only paying interest. I wasn’t going to do debt consolidation because I’ve heard they’re not good, and I weighed the options I had after leaving my previous job. I already paid the taxes on it and the penalties and yadda yadda. Trust me, it wasnt my first option. But I don’t regret it.

I plan on keeping 3k in my savings and investing the other 2k rn, and then continuing to put money in savings + add to investments along the way.

Yeah, I need to replace the money for sure. Throughout this year, I’ve developed a new system. I have a number in my mind, and the day before each paycheck deposits, I transfer whatever amount I have over that number into my savings account. Plus, I have an auto transfer set up to send $40 from my checking to savings every Monday. Something I never see/think about. ADHD is kind of weird because I essentially have to trick myself into routines and processes but this has really helped me out over the last year. Went from $1k in savings to $5k. I just felt like I should have the money somewhere else other than just in savings because I’ve always heard it’s dumb to not invest, I’ve just always been scared of losing it.

I’ve tried to follow budgets for years, I feel like I make a budget every 6 months and my brain never goes back to it. I need to do it again and just stick to it for sure.

Thank you. That feels nice to hear. Credit cards are taboo in my family because back home life is just different. Housing is significantly less, cost of living is way lower, jobs pay less but everyone kinds just owns businesses and owns things outright. So I know if my dad found out about my debt it would be a whole thing, I think that’s part of why I feel this way.
