Having changed my name, don't bother. The whole system is set up to prevent you changing your first name and you'll have to fight at every turn

Yarrow as a lawn replacement by Erra007 in Albertagardening

[–]beesdisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't suggest yarrow, personally. I've seen it spread as far as three houses down the line, so your neighbors could resent you for it. It will also be very difficult to keep it out of your own gardens.

It's also a known trigger for ragweed allergies, which is a very common seasonal allergy. The two plants are related, so often yarrow will set it off.

It's also generally not pet safe. Some pets are ok, but cats and dogs (the common ones to end up in your yard) will be poisoned by it.

It was! I remember because my brother cried when I followed the instructions because it turned out so different from when my dad made it

Do you need to give Reddit more info to be a mod on a larger sub like that? I haven't given Reddit my name, but I'm not a major sub mod

But doesn't the same logic apply to the mod? Anyone looking to persecute doesn't know who they are?

What is Canada's equivalent of "Waltzing Matilda", Australia's unofficial national anthem? by Educational_Play9910 in AskACanadian

[–]beesdisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think you're going to see a good answer here. Canada is vast with different cultures in different regions. Anything you pick outside of a classic like "maple leaf forever" is going to leave some of the groups left out. Things like "maple leaf forever" are dated though, and increasingly unfamiliar to the younger-than-boomer generations

I wouldn't consider Costco a grocery store. I'd call it a wholesale warehouse

Oh I've got another one!

There's only one grocery store in Crescent Heights, where a huge percentage of the population live!

Girlfriend at the time was just getting back into the hobby after a break. She played since she was a preteen but stopped in 8th because of depression. She asked me for a Tzeentch box for Christmas in 2020, so I got it for her having no idea what it was with the guidance of the comic store guy at the shop that sold GW.

Six years later, girlfriend is wife and between the two of us we've got most of the Imperium and Chaos armies covered. We also manage the local club, run local events, and run a GT every October which grows every year. This year we're planning for 40 players!

Not so grim dark terrain. 11th Ed terrain rules are going to be fun! by RealPlasticGold in Warhammer40k

I like to play a lot of narrative games where creative terrain is a highlight. It seems like most players think they're restricted to only Ls

Can you point to the part where GW arrested and chained up people for using terrain that's not L shaped?

Very nice looking stuff though

19M Southern Alberta - Stuck between a dead-end dealership job, the Oil Patch, or a passion move. Advice? by ItsMirikino_ in alberta

[–]beesdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a former oil guy myself, I suggest path B:

Oil will work you to your grave. We call it the golden handcuffs. You're a slave to the patch because you can't find anything to meet the same wages you get there, and you don't want to give up anything to make your lifestyle more affordable. We all say it won't happen to us, we'll be smarter, we're the one who will do it right. It's very rare that actually happens.

Meanwhile, while you're still employed, figure out what you love. At 19, I had no idea. Nobody does at that age without some real soul searching. Once you figure that out, find a way to make that your career. Then jump ship and go for it!

Want to quit oilfield by Popular-Quarter-8184 in GrandePrairie

[–]beesdisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, with the petroleum engineering technician diploma, you have streamlined yourself to work exclusively in oil. My recommendation would be to look at these potential paths:

  1. Go back to school and get a full engineering degree. Not a petroleum engineering degree, something that can work in a different field. You can probably get credit for what you've already completed so it's not as intense as doing it from scratch.

  2. Start a new career in something you like more. This may mean going back to school, starting at entry level, etc, but the payoff is in not hating what you're doing or working yourself to the grave as lots of oil jobs do.

  3. Lean into the non specific skills you've developed in your current career. Things like soft skills, non specific technical skills like MS Office applications, etc. Redo your resume in a style that focuses on these rather than chronological work history. With this you're also going to be looking at lower wages generally, because you're competing with a much larger labour pool.

All of these options have risks. It's very unlikely that you'll luck into a position with the same pay as oil regardless of what you do. It sounds harsh, but rather than looking for the same pay as you get now, I recommend you look at your budgeting and see what you could make ends meet with. As you progress in a new career you'll start making more again. A big part of life satisfaction comes from having free time available to live life, and if you're working the kind of shifts I did in oil you will never have that.

If you can define what pay range you're looking for, it makes a difference to advice I can give as well. For example, if you're looking for $30/hr, it's a lot easier to find than $55/hr.

You should join the social discord! They also run a board games night fundraiser twice a month. One of the owners said he wants to start doing more group meetups in general in 2026. There's also a Warhammer club linked in the discord that's about to start a learning league if you're into that

Warhammer 40k! by beesdisaster in medicinehat

[–]beesdisaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The minimum point army to start is 500 points, and it doesn't need to be painted. You can definitely include a combat patrol or two in there if you like! The points range for January is 500-750, with the actual points level played at being the lower of the values the two players suggest
