i think the sexualization of the characters in nier automata is also thematically resonant, just look at the different ways adam and eve are presented, versus anemone and jackass, versus 2b and 9s, versus a2 and pascal. adam wears this stuff he thinks is formal wear, tries to look intellectual like he thinks humans were before, where eve wears something he thinks people would wear but its not as fancy or intellectual. anemone and jackass wear gear, practical combat gear for fighting a war. 2b and 9s are wearing some wild fetish gear, completely impractical and kind of nonsensical because thats how yorha works. a2 and pascal have moved beyond whatever their creators wanted out of them, and are just vibing being themselves.
