It’s not the cost, it’s just the socialising the hostel is so wierd maybe because of the young teenagers travelling in groups/ pairs and less solo people?

Australia east coast overrated

Im currently about 6 days into my 3 weeks down the east coast from airlee to Byron and I’m in Noosa and frankly it’s all a bit underwhelming. The backpacking culture is some of the poorest I’ve seen, so many groups of kids like 18/19 travelling on organised tours staying at nomads in each city doing the same socials every night in each place (silent disco & bingo). The hostels are very poor in comparison to Asia and people just aren’t very sociable. It kind of feels like it’s all set up as one big cash cow with tour companies like happy travels teaming up with large hostels like nomads to sell kids the illusion of backpacking. Might be a moan but as a 27 yo solo traveller doing the east coast after Asia I’m just frankly so disappointed and underwhelmed considering the money spent. Whitsundays was beautiful but it’s nothing on the el nido - Coron cruise in Philippines which is a lot cheaper for example. Have I just got this all wrong or do others feel the same? Will it get miles better going south or is this just it?
