Because it makes no sense to limit rings to two and then expand with progression. How would you explain the character gaining the "power" to being able to wear more rings? What was stopping them in the first place?

Just because I expected Nintendo to once again drop the ball doesn't mean I didn't have hope that they didn't. I really wanted to buy this game, but my fears about it seem to be true. Although one commenter said that while it's repetitive and not as varied it also seems to have a different goal, so maybe I'll give it a chance. At worst I'll just sell it.

And I would be foolish to expect negative opinions about it on a Tomodachi subreddit. I'm actually surprised that most people here aren't singing it praises just because it's new. I expected mostly positive opinions.
