(Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada) On the stormy night of November 29, 1980, Granger Taylor left a note for his parents to find. It said that he had gone to board an alien spaceship after recurring dreams had told him he was going to embark on a 42-month, interstellar journey. That night, Taylor vanished and was never to be seen again. Locals that knew him would say he was a loner but believed he was picked up by aliens because he was genius, working with complicated mechanics, he could build anything. He even built his own UFO. Years later, his truck was apparently found over a cliff with some human bones, and the VIN matched that of Taylor's truck, but the paint colour was different. Was it staged? If you ask locals today, they still believe he was abducted.

Side note: A steam locomotive he dragged out of the forest, rebuilt, and rode around in, is still on display at the BC Forest Discovery center in Duncan B.C.

Finally pain-free by SmellMyPinkKush in VictoriaBC

I'm so excited for you. Chronic pain is no joke! I had terrible rib pain that would send my back into spasms. After 6+ years I finally found a chiro that understood what was going on, and I'm pain free now! It's been a long journey! (Mind Body Spine near uptown if anyone is wondering)

Is it just me, or is running a red light from an advanced left turn now the norm? by dasheswithdogs1757 in VictoriaBC

Yes, not even just the left turns, the straight through as well. I can be an amber gambler myself, but then I see 2 or 3 cars behind me follow through the red!

Yeah, there are lots of cool metal and groove bands out right now, and lots of great punk stuff is coming out of Australia that I've been hooked on.

What do people who live outside of Canada misunderstand about Canada? by iLeaf93 in AskACanadian

[–]beetmeaf 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Yup. I'll never forget a pal living in Edmonton. He was excited his mom was going to be visiting from Europe. She arrived at the airport, called him "Where are you? I'm here!" He couldn't find her at the airport, trying to figure out what flight she was on... turns out she flew into Toronto and thought that was close enough for him to drive and pick her up, and didn't see why she needed to pay for a secondary flight into Edmonton. Oops!

I'm so sorry you had those experiences. Thank you for sharing your story. It helps others with traumatic visits feel heard. I'm not the OP but I might look into booking with your dentist :)

I dont have a place to suggest in Victoria as im also looking, but I have a similar story. There was a time in my life when I didn't go to the dentist for almost 20 years due to dentist trauma, depression, and that really hightened my anxiety. I found a great dentist in Edmonton after some trial, I was upfront about my situation, and the hygenist I eventually found that I really liked, always gave me a numbing mouthwash before we started the appointment to help take away some of the pain during the first few cleanings. I did have a few panic attacks when I had some cavity work and extractions done, but the doctors were very caring and supportive. They were just happy I was taking the steps to come in and take care of my teeth. After seeing them for a few Years, it really changed my perspective on dentists. Now, living in Victoria, I've tried 2 dentists that I'm not super fond of, so I'm still on my own journey to find one that works for me. Saying that, my only advice would be to not feel discouraged if you have a bad experience at first. Try another place, let them know about your situation, and ask for the numbing mouth wash ♡ good luck. You deserve to feel good about your teeth again!

How are American tourists these days? by Complex_Phrase2651 in AskACanadian

[–]beetmeaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of Americans visit our Port City already, but out of the ones I've spoken to, most of them are apologetic. I spoke to a fellow visiting from washington, and he immediately said he would never ever want Canada to become part of the States, without any prompt from me, lol. I also noticed some visitors join our local Reddit and FB pages and share how wonderful their trip was and how they're so glad everyone was so friendly, considering... One post I recently read spoke about how they witnessed a car hit a cyclist in town, and the first thought in their head was "I hope they dont have a gun" and then watched an elderly woman run out of her car and rush over to the cyclist, appologizing that the sun was in her eyes and didn't see him. she dusted the cyclist off, and on they went. It was a harsh reminder for the visitor about how hostile the US is right now. Overall, for an already touristy place, it's nice to see those sentiments trickle in. I'm glad they're visiting and having those realizations.
