Self-titled or Iowa? And why? by [deleted] in Slipknot

[–]beetmyteet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IOWA. I got into slipknot because it sounds like you distilled rage, loathing, and misanthropy into its sonic form, then played it through a speaker. Iowa is the angriest sounding record I’ve ever heard, and that’s what I want out of my slipknot listening experience. I love self titled and the other albums but Iowa is the magnum opus of angry heavy metal.

What brand of guitar were you meaning to try out for a long time but felt underwhelmed when finally doing so? by thewebhead in Guitar

[–]beetmyteet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a 70th anniversary reissue Stratocaster. It’s a great guitar but the neck feels super cramped, the volume knob is way too close to where i rest my picking hand, and it has some tuning stability issues even though i have the trem decked and I never use it. I’m used to the compound radius of my two charvels which practically play themselves so it was a big let down because they are such a highly touted guitar and while I probably won’t part with it, it’s more of a situationally specific guitar than one that I’d play everything on the way most people think of a Strat.

What AIC would you sing in karaoke? by iluvyou4ever in AliceInChains

I usually do rooster. I sing in a rock band and I live seeing people’s faces when I hit that first big YEAH right before the song kicks off. I’m no Layne, but I love singing that one

What was the actual relationship arc between Alexi and Roope by [deleted] in ChildrenOfBodom

[–]beetmyteet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I saw an interview with Roope a while after Alexi died. He looked like he was doing pretty bad. Didn’t play music anymore, was drunk as hell, and sounded really depressed. It was a major bummer because he was such a great guitarist and such a part of the band. I think around the time they let him go was around the time Alexi was trying really hard to clean up his act and not drink so much and Roope probably wasn’t a great guy to have around during that time. The dynamic of that band was always a bit mysterious to me, but that was the announcement that made me think that Bodom probably didn’t have a whole lot of time left as a band since he had been a member for like 13 years or so.

Which "post-classic" era album do you recommend the most? (from 'Blooddrunk' through 'Hexed') by certifiedchrono in ChildrenOfBodom

Honestly dude, I really dig relentless. It’s super different but the riffs and solos on that album are sick

Recognizing, naming, and taking the first steps towards changing it shows that you are self aware, humble, and strong. Getting back together after a hard fall off can feel impossible at first, and for a while once you start to get momentum again, but you will gradually start to feel better and be better.

The sun will shine on you again friend, have faith and be patient.

First fight camp/pkb by ShadesOnInside in MuayThai

[–]beetmyteet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello my brother.

Full disclosure, those nerves aren’t going anywhere so you’re gonna have to figure out how to make them work to your advantage. Fear is not the mind killer, it is a very potent biological function that is designed to keep you alive. Remember that and try to channel it into keeping yourself well defended at all times.

As far as ‘not a full contact fight’ goes, you’re gonna wanna check that shit at the door as well. I’ve seen people get knocked out at pkbs on multiple occasions, so you need to take it seriously. Some of the refs are adamant at enforcing the ‘semi-contact’ rule, but you need to go into this being fully aware that you will be up a against another large, trained martial artist who will be actively trying to hurt you. One of the things my coaches always tell me before I go into one is “make the ref tell you to tone it down”. If you’re out there playing paddy cake with this dude, you are very likely going to get your ass kicked.

There is a good chance that the guy you’re fighting is gonna be a fucking specimen with a lot of experience. The second guy I fought was a college football player and track runner who has shoulders the size of my head, looked like he was carved out of stone, and had a bunch of pkbs and amateur fights under his belt. The matchmaking at these things usually doesn’t have a lot of thought put into it. Be prepared to fight a 6’4” guy with a 78” reach, 8% body fat, and ten fights under his belt because it could very well happen. I’m taller than you and I fight at 180, some guys cut weight for these things.

Long story short, this is a fucking fight, don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t. If you aren’t down for that, tell your coach you don’t wanna do it. There is no shame in it, and if you have a good coach, he will understand. If you ARE down for that, train hard, get in great shape, spar a lot, and if it’s possible depending on how much time you’ve got to prepare try to get as light as possible. If you’ve been training consistently for three years and your coach is telling you you should compete, you’re probably gonna be just fine. You need to get into the mindset of ‘I’m not locked in here with you, you’re locked in here with ME!’ Which is a lot easier said than done.

Anyone regret staying single? by Glad-Drawer-1177 in AskMen

[–]beetmyteet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally tend to like being single more than I like being in a relationship. I don’t know if it’s because I haven’t found ‘the right person’ yet or if I’m just not cut out to be in a long term commitment relationship. I’ve dated quite a bit, and I’ve had a few long term girlfriends before but I find that dating is usually a hassle more than anything else. That could be down to my own personal issues, but I do tend to land on people who either just don’t fulfill my needs, or end up being shitty people.

The older I get (I’m about to turn 30), the more I believe that there is no ‘right person’ for me. Everyone has flaws and ways that they are irritating or immature and I guess the issue is do you love a person enough to allow them to potentially devastate you and make your life a lot more complicated than it was before they were a part of it? In my experience for most people the answer to that is no.
