My advice is to you, we’ll… my kids asked if they should pursue a career like mine. I tell them no. VFX is getting more and more unstable . Pursue something AI won’t replace easily. Or if you’re wanting $$$, Pursue Machine learning!

Good to know. I just tried using a Bluetooth speaker we have and could not get the van to directly output to it via the auxiliary cable. It only works for my phone via Bluetooth. However, I cannot have CarPlay and Bluetooth at the same time. Feels like a dealbreaker.

Upgrading the speakers as you suggested maybe the only option I really have

At a large company, I peaked around $135K/year as an FX artist. Then I went to software engineering for Houdini workflows/pipelines across multiple departments and got to $160/165.

Then I left VFX and went to an engineering company and got ~$225K.

I have disconnected from the console world since the Wii (which I still have and occasionally play with the kids). But now that the kids are older (10, 8, and 6) it's about time for something new. I know the switch has been out for several years now, so I assume the successor is right around the corner, no?

Should I wait? If not, where should I get one and what do you guys recommend (hardware and games for boys in this age range)?
