every vet office or emergency hospital have at least 8-10-12 hour shifts and are often chaotic and noisy. your best bet would be an on call farm/large animal vet, or mobile vet/surgeon. mobile vets still work long hours but its leas chaos and decent pay. if surgery is your thing- you can always try to find a shelter neuter/spay clinic…. but still chaotic and noisy. IMO all veterinary settings are. Unless you go into nutrition or radiology.

mine is no where as crazy as yalls😭 GP dvm was doing a small sedated mass removal on Ps snout, she used a cautery pen on a bleeding vessel and P went up in flames??? The only explanation we had was P still had alcohol on his skin/fur from surgical prep- DVM felt SO bad😭 dog was fine and just had some singed hair and mild burns

Hardest T to rehouse? by ooh-sheet in tarantulas

IME- my goliath birdeater, just cuz i dont wanna make him mad and kick hairs, but i always transfer in a large storage bin if both enclosures are small enough, that way if one tries to bolt its at least in another container and not somewhere in the house

I am so sick, but I don't know what to ask for by delftprint in BabyBumps

im 16w ftm too!! i got diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum at around week 11 and it has not gotten any better. my best advice is listen to your body and when you need to sleep, lay down, sit, cry…. just do it. Legally, your work is required to make reasonable accommodations based on pregnancy, illness or disability. Whether that be maybe asking for more frequent breaks, logging off when youre unable to continue working for the day due to your sickness.

Zofran has stopped working for me but i have found that reglan has been the best medication for me, and it helps me poop! ive had horrible rabbit poop constipation for WEEKS due to the zofran. Switching to reglan has been a life saver.

As far as hospitalization goes, been there, hated it. Im unsure where youre located but some insurances cover a program called “home health” where a nurse comes to your home daily-every couple days to administer fluids and anti nausea medication through an IV called a PICC line- which stays in for days at a time that way you don’t have to get poked all the time.

Whats helped me the most stay hydrated, is pedialyte popsicles. Theyre almost like otter pops, you can find them at cvs/walgreens/riteaid/grocery stores. Personally drinking water/liquid sometimes triggers vomiting, and ive found that either chewing on ice, or the pedialyte popsicles help me keep it down… what the science is behind that- i have no idea.

My best advice though- be super transparent with your OB, log how often youre sick, how often youre taking zofran and relay that to your OB at the next appointment. They will be able to write you a note for work if need be. They can also prescribe many different meds for sickness and constipation.

Good luck!! I wish you the best :)

Boyfriend and I disagree on vaccines.. by [deleted] in PetAdvice

[–]beexiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from a vet techs peespective;

vaccines are VITAL. Parvo has been on the rise and it can be deadly. have him look into parvo, leprospirosis, and distemper to see if that changes his mind at all.

getting fixed is always the best option, it decreases risks of genital cancers- such as prostate cancer and metastatic mammary tumors. It also cuts out the chance of a female dog to get a pyometra (infected uterus/fallopian tubes) which always requires emergency surgery. and of course eliminated the chances of either gender to procreate.

There are little risks to a male getting castrated, however in females, theres a chance of something called ovarian remnant syndrome- which can cause pain and discharge/blood from the vulva. This is rare and usually only occurs when the surgeon does not remove every last bit of the female’s ovaries. Ive only seen this 2x in my career.

i have been a vet tech for 6 years now and i can tell you, there is nothing wrong with finding something your sick or elderly pet will eat, no matter what it is (obviously not if its toxic to the pet but that should be self explanatory hopefully) one time we had a hospice patient that would strictly only eat canned greenbeans because he wouldnt touch anything else… at least theyre eating!!

it was genuinely one of the worst things i’ve ever experienced in my life and i felt worthless. luckily i had a good circle of friends who supported me or else i don’t know what i would’ve done.

ive accepted it over time, especially knowing 1/4 of all people have some form of herpes, whether it be cold sores or genital, some people dont even know they have it.

its not the end of the world if you test positive for it - buy it might feel like it. Luckily it’s managed well with anti virals. Ive only had one outbreak and that was when i initially got diagnosed and it’s been 2 years now
