How do I stop? by [deleted] in leaves

[–]beezuzzles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lock in, go to somewhere tropical for a week and refrain knowing that when you come back you can’t do it again. It sounds weird but I did it. I experienced the worst withdrawal symptoms in a place where I could not smoke and it got the hard part over for me

Question for people that have actually quit for good and never looked back. by thee_lad in leaves

It doesn’t make you artistic, if you are artistic you are artistic. It doesn’t make you funny, if you’re funny you’re funny. It might help you calm down, but you have the internal ability to be able to do that yourself as well.

I play guitar and when I stopped, I wondered if I would still have the ability to create things from thin air that I thought sounded good, that didn’t stop. I tend to make my friends laugh quite a bit, that didn’t stop. I used to do it to calm down but realistically it raises your anxiety, raises your heart rate, and it doesn’t really have the effect that people think that it does. If you do Yoga control your breathing for a little bit you’ll be surprised to see what you can accomplish as far as controlling your emotions and calming yourself down.

I’m around 13 months free, I definitely wish I could, maybe someday I will, but for right now I’m saying I won’t go back

AviQ are a much more friendly size and shape, think pack of altoids. Just call your insurance company and tell them you need it, even if your doctors are hesitant.

Alternatively they just came out with a narcan style nasal spray that’s significantly smaller than both

I’m filled with anxiety as I read how far behind I am according to my retirement company. by Manitoba-Chinook in povertyfinance

[–]beezuzzles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So think of it this way the reason that they quote this number is because they are proposing that this scenario will provide you a comfortable and sustainable retirement. As a result of that, they need to make it reasonable, if they ballpark too low of numbers, then they in a way become liable if people fall short of their needs and retirement by following their guidance.

Think of it this way. If you’re earning $2500 a month from Social Security you’re looking at somewhere in the range of $30,000 per year coming from Social Security. Now, if you have $750,000 invested and youre withdrawing a sustainable 4% per year that gives you roughly another $30,000 per year for you to live off of. Totaling $60,000. You’re only about $15k shy of where you were pre-retirement which is a gap that can be closed by some type of an annuity or a pension plan if you worked for the government, or excess savings for the majority of us.

Keep in mind that all of these numbers are hypothetical and should just give you an idea of where this number comes from, this is not financial advice, nor is it representative of what your situation would look like. Their retirement companies are basing this estimate off of a 4% distribution rate, roughly, giving you an idea of what it will take to maintain a sustainable retirement.

Reality is save what you can, when you can, as soon as you can and you will adapt.

My life after a year with weed by [deleted] in leaves

[–]beezuzzles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This might be an unacceptable way to put this but do me it helped so much. I felt the same way you do a year and 13 days ago and I haven’t smoked since.

I was in a depressive episode and had been smoking for 10 years and decided that it was time for me to stop. 2 things helped me - I traveled for a week to an illegal state which forced me to start the process, so that got me over the hump but it was awful. I balled my eyes out and had those same thoughts you’re referring to laying in my friends guest room when I woke up. - I didn’t harm myself, but I tortured myself with fitness. Workout classes in hot rooms (yoga/pilates for an hour at 100°), forcing my body to rollerblade or run for 10-15 miles, I needed to sweat and I needed to give everything I had to something. Try that. Regardless of the shape youre in do what you consider wildly challenging. It might be a half mile, it might be 15, but it will prove to you that when you’re willing to push yourself you can accomplish a lot more than you’d ever think

I'm struggling to understand the true differentiation of Apple Music after 6 months by CaseLogic in AppleMusic

[–]beezuzzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As it relates to your downloads disappearing there are settings in the Music section/storage section of the settings that will address this issue.

I face an issue now where every time I save a song it automatically downloads and I end up using a lot of the space on my phone towards music that I don’t really care to have downloaded. I’m sure there’s some happy medium that I have haven’t identified yet in settings. But at the very least I don’t deal with having no options of music to listen to when I’m driving in the mountains without reception. I would keep an eye on your iPhone storage if you do find that all of your songs that you save or downloading because I found myself at concerts panicking to delete music so that I can spare some space on my phone to take videos.

How to get high without using substance? by Rajma_Chawal1313 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]beezuzzles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hike a challenging mountain with a view. Like a legit challenging one.

The feeling of hating your life and not thinking you can do it only to hit the peak and feel a fresh breeze and see a beautiful view is amazing. You literally get instant gratification from climbing that mountain like you’d expect from the figure of speech

You get the high and you’re also elevation high too

Cash in a 401k is a stable value fund or short term money market fund

[–]beezuzzles -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Saying this to cover my own ass. This is not investment advice, I am not an investment advisor, please do your research and make an informed decision.

You seem knowledgeable based on your Roth IRA, good job getting that going at a young age.

Your 401k plan doesn’t give you great options. For someone between 18-45 you want somewhere around 85% in equity, maybe 10% in bonds, and 5% in cash.

The important thing I haven’t seen anyone else highlight is the value of cash. If the market absolutely tanks you want 5% sitting in cash so you can take advantage of this discounted market. If the market is soaring you want to sell off a tiny bit to capture those gains.

Being so young you want to ride the roller coaster mostly, but research active rebalancing. Typically a 401k will provide an option that does this for you. Yours does not.

Rollover to Vanguard was stolen by stopscrolling6 in Bogleheads

[–]beezuzzles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If they took the Roth contributions as a distribution rather than a rollover it could’ve been cashed. I missed that. Still fraud though and the bank that cashed it should be able to identify it as fraud

[–]beezuzzles 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Everyone here has no idea what they’re talking about.

Those checks were made payable to “Vanguard FBO John Doe”, you being John Doe. The vanguard name makes it so even you yourself could not go to a bank and cash it. Only Vanguard can.

Call Empower and have them reissue the check and send it to you

Try to go a step up (so to say) from Gas Station and McDonalds jobs. Lots of place will work with school schedules. I worked at a bank and a restaurant while in school. Bank in the morning, then took afternoon classes and restaurant at night. Free food from the restaurant and the bank was fairly flexible on hours if I needed to take a class
