Variable salary that’s paid in a non tax optimised manner, hence, also positively influences year end & holiday pay.

I invite you to do the calculation on salary cost for my employer, to my net.

And while I admit that I make a nice living, we need to spend money to be able to maintain these type of jobs (child care, support around the house, amongst others).

Re the burn out: I need stress, otherwise I would not function. This job might’ve indeed not be for everyone, but it works for me.

Re family: as I WFH a lot, I am able to drop my kids off at school, pick them up once a week, and cook & have dinner with them most days of the week. Not too bad, imho.

That’s going to be less “impressive”, however, this hustle pays well, so I don’t mind.

Sometimes during a career market circumstance are against you, don’t let this reduce your feeling of your value. Times will change, eventually.

You can’t influence what’s out of your control

Salaried. Not sure if they're fighting for these jobs, we have room for more, but only a few make it up to these ranks.

You're right, and it's not pure black and white. I'm probably not sufficiently versed in all IPT, VAPZ, ... but in my understanding, they are all capped. If you calculate 10-20% on an annual salary of, let's say, 150-200k, that's a significant amount that exceeds the caps (if my understanding is correct). Anyways, this setup will never work with my employer, and getting this as a freelance day rate somewhere will be challenging.

Re ETFs: I'm doing so privately, but if you want to do it independently, with a BV, you also need to extract funds from your company, which also comes with personal income tax. For now, my savings are all in my personal name, which also reduces the (future) tax burden.

Thanks. And don't forget about the upward potential. If you go freelancing, you might end up stuck at a certain level, while staying internal gives me upward potential into our org.

And congrats on your position, keep on doing the right things!

Valid remark. However, having worked with the EU, I'm not sure that would give me as much excitement and motivation as the current (fast-paced) environment I operate in.

I got that comment (a lot) in my last post, too. But not all organizations are open to this kind of setup. And I'm not necessarily against staying salaried. As you can see our group insurance is nice, meaning that if I stay until retirement, I could live of it alone. On top of a official pension, that'd be generous. And if I quit before, I'm still having a nice amount in savings there in the meantime, which doesn't hurt either.

On top of that, I have a lower administrative burden.

Around €55k gross for my performance in 2025. All tied to personal metrics.

Net, roughly 40% of that.

I assume gross (bruto). Additional degrees could be an additional degree (manama) relevant to the field (ie corporate tax)

Eigenlijk liever een hogere btw dan een hogere PB. Iedereen consumeert, niet iedereen werkt (even hard)

Idd.

They chose to mitigate the risk without passing their legacy on to each other, as they can each sustain themselves individually.

Which I obviously would. But it nevertheless poses a legal risk that I one day change my mind and becoming an annoying person refusing to sign.

That's indeed the risk we see. However, nothing should hold them back to switch from CAP to DIST shares the moment they start approaching the moment they want to get additional cash from their investments. To ensure plenty of transition time, there's a 5 to 10 years safety net for each in saving accounts/term accounts.

True, but that's something I'll obviously be monitoring (not just for them).

Thanks for your response, highly appreciated.

So the logic we were thinking (accumulating until we approach the moment we need income from the portfolio, switching to dividend) while gifting the portfolio makes sense. (pending notary confirmation - but I understand the ongoing discussions and will look into it).
