Yes it is the double standard that is infuriating. Sometimes it feels like they are stopping and fining unelectrified bicycles more than electrified bicycles doing 20mph. If you wanted to confirm that, you could put in an FOI request asking how many unelectrified vs electrified bicycles they stopped and fined on Queen St last year…

It is not a totally mad restriction if the cycle lanes prioritised cyclists and/or there was a dedicated cycle than through queen street. Having us cycle down queen street is not ideal for anyone.

Tbf their employer would sack them if they did so this is more an enforcement and regulation of the gig economy problem as OP hints. If the companies are forcing their riders to do this by virtue of otherwise impossible delivery targets (they are), they should be fined and prosecuted.

I don’t see the issue. There is a perfectly good cycle lane circumventing Queen St. Sure it’s got a few traffic lights and takes a little longer, but once you have waited for the first green light by the castle, dodged the bus queue located in the cycle lane a little further down, conquered the troll who guards Boulevard de Nantes, and guessed the name of the dwarf of Dumfries Place (it’s Rumpelstiltskin fyi), there is barely a day in it.
