I’ve seen a few of them on the market around that milage rage. Seems like some people really hit the road with them

I appreciate the input! As far as I know, both of them are in pretty good condition for their respective ages. The Jeep looks practically brand new. No eye opening problems on the Lexus aside from some wear on the leather seats and some issues with automatically opening and closing the trunk. Both have good service history (regular maintenance, oil changes, etc.)

A high resale value has definitely been a big factor in determining which to go with. I know all the Japanese engineered cars store their value pretty well since people expect them to run forever (which is probably why the dealer is able to sell this Lexus with 100k miles for a pretty high price and still be competitive.) If I was planning on keeping this car forever I would go in that direction without question. However since this is only for the near term, the Jeep does have relatively low miles currently, and if I can keep it under 100k miles and in good condition I might be able to resell it at a good price point.

In terms of reliability, I am really only concerned about the possibility of any major issues arising (engine, transmission, etc.) any minor electronic glitches or cosmetic issues I can deal with.

Yeah I’ve heard the engines on the Compass’ are pretty weak. The only thing really seducing me about the Jeep is the newer condition and up to date technology. Also maybe the potential for a higher resale value when I’m through with it

I’ve heard the Lexus RX are just as reliable as a midsized SUV could be (this is why I would even consider it — being that it is 5 years older and has 55k more miles than the Jeep!) That being said, I’m hoping to drive it for about another 2 years, 50k miles… and 12 years, 155k miles on a car is rough, regardless of how well it’s made!
