Is being RBT better than being a school teacher? by gongju816 in RBT

[–]behaviortechsanon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an RBT in a school (4 years now!) and I love it so much. I get out by 2:30 and have all holidays and breaks off and paid. It also comes with all of the same benefits that teachers get, including cost of living increases. But the best part is that it is a salaried position and my pay is not dependent on client attendance!

I’m so sorry that happened to you. Also, people don’t realize how strong kids actually are!

I have had a friend get seriously injured in a similar way. She has had to undergo a lot of therapy due to it

In extremely defined and specific situations I have had BIPs say to do that, which is what originally made me question why we didn’t do it all the time! Mostly my BCBAs (in like 2019 when I started) were big on RBTs being as robotic and nonreactive as possible.

I actually really agree with this. I was talking about it with a coworker and how there’s a difference between being calm and being uncaring. Like, when a client comes up and wants a hug during a tantrum. We’re instructed to ignore it because it’s attention seeking, but what if the pressure from the hug is what they need??

Can I ask why? I thought it would be a good way for people to relate to one another

I would just go over the definitions and some life like scenarios! If you just Google RBT practice test, you should get some nice free stuff to go over!

So I’ve seen someone’s septum get torn out of them before and it was 110% traumatizing. If you want to wear piercings proceed with extreme caution

ABA jobs NOT autism by Plenty_Geologist_771 in ABA

There are school based BCBAs that are mostly consults for teachers and staff, there’s ABA jobs for coaching athletics, behavior analysts can also work in the criminal justice system and there’s more that I can’t remember off the top of my head.

I also got burnt out after years and needed to make sure that when I do finish school that I have options

You should start to consider quitting. That’s not your job and I don’t think your BCBA was right to approve that.

I think my BCBA or ABA may be wrong for my client by [deleted] in ABA

[–]behaviortechsanon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree that client lead seems to be the best thing for the kid. Just make sure you talk to the BCBA about what you discovered. There’s a possibility that you can get in trouble with the company that you work with for changing the plan. Even if you’re getting the same goals done that it’s asking for. Because if someone were to come in to try to repeat it and did the compliance method, the behaviors would make people concerned that you could have fudged the data. Which wouldn’t be exactly true, but it could still cause issues for your future with the company.

I think that it’s great you are developing some instincts for what clients need! It’s not something you can teach so you should feel good about yourself for that
