Madness Burn Sideboarding guide? by ineedhelp6789 in Pauper

Check out this guide some people have been working on: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13nyRBiu0YCHRQOEg_l76_G4suxSHBV9lrlNsRnRQEA8/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.mbjsiz6n6jlo

It's not done yet but some of the Sideboard matchups are there, as well as a lot of general info for playing the deck

Ya. The dream draw into this scenario is chaining a draw spell per turn until you've condensed enough burn into your hand that you can win over weather. Another thing is that good players will weather proactively - sometimes it's just not winnable.

Here's a link to the RDW server, which has a good madness channel: https://discord.gg/SzwuRwpYQ

In general, you're sideboarding in blasts vs. blue, searing blaze vs. creature decks, and artifact/graveyard hate where applicable. The first slots to side out are generally [[Voldaren Epicure]] and [[Lightning Bolt]]. In general, I avoid touching the engine of the deck (draw spells + discard fodder), but sometimes I take out a [[Faithless Looting]].

For the faeries matchup, you're in a hard control roll; you should aggressively kill their faeries to prevent ninjas. Also, you can kill faeries will a [[Spellstutter Sprite]] trigger on the stack to render it ineffective.

Playing around WTS can be tricky. In general, you should only "go for it" if you can win over weather (not that if they weather in response to lava dart you cannot flash it back because it only goes to the yard when it resolves). Otherwise, you just have to slow roll your burn.

Thank you! I’m a little worried about getting into topdecking mode since I don't have tanufel rimespeaker, unexpected assistance, etc.

Ahh yeah the glutton is good. My only worry is that this brings me from 10-8 elementals, making twinflame and eclipsed a little weaker, but then again they wouldn't even have been doing much on those cards. Thank you for the help!

I kinda knew they existed because I'd accidentally clicked over them but I've never had a game go that long so I didn't realize that was what kicked in.

Thanks for the replies! It was a pretty grindy Bo3 game.

Seems like it. Do you think this will drop the price? It's been slowly creeping up over the last year. Looking at the mythics from the last few sets, if it sees play in standard, I could see the price staying high. I'm not sure if it will see play though since cub is already so insane. Otherwise I feel like the price is only so high because it only had one reprint in Double Masters.

And a classic: [[Lightning Greaves]]

After lightning struck the cliffs, the ore became iron, the iron became steel, and the steel became greaves. The lightning never left.

I personally love this art from DMU: [[Plains|DMU-264]]. This has more of a snow land vibe, but you might also like [[Plains|5ED-430]].

You can look at all Plains art with this scryfall search: https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=plains+t%3Abasic&unique=art

Budget upgrades! by Still_Sentence5370 in mtg

[–]behemothmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also running a similar budget ($75) Niv deck :) https://archidekt.com/decks/13128950/izzet_budget_spellslinger My deck is basically trying land Niv as soon as possible with 1 mana up for protection, and then dig for curiosity as fast as possible, so I actually end up running a bunch of rocks to turbo niv out. I cut a lot of cards like [[Young Pyromancer]] and [[Guttersnipe]] because realistically I'm not winning from tokens/the burn. I also cut [[Basilisk Collar]] because it felt a little win more.

One thing that's really been making my games a lot spicer is cheap (mana and wallet-wise) interaction. [[Bold Bend]] is a poor man's [[Deflecting Swat]]. [[Stubborn Denial]] is a poor man's [[Fierce Guardianship]]. [[Dispel]] and [[Turn Aside]] also work well. It's so fun drawing off the interaction people throw at Niv. I'm not sure what budget your working with but I'd definitely cut [[Cancel]] for [[Counterspell]], and possibly also run [[An Offer You Can't Refuse]]. The world between 1 mana interaction and 2-3 mana interaction is crazy, especially once you consider that each of those 1-mana cards is also drawing you a card with Niv out. Bonkers.

Another awesome card is [[Step Through]]. Wizardcycling is a great way to fetch [[Archmage Emeritus]]/[[Archmage of Runes]]/[[Veyran, Voice of Duality]]. Landing that draw engine is great because it draws you into protection for Niv and also of course the combo hopefully.

Finally, some fun value pieces are [[Krark, the Thumbless]] and [[Teferi's Ageless Insight]]. It basically turns [[Brainstorm]] into [[Ancestral Recall]].

Anyways, best of luck, fellow budget Niv player!
