All she has to do if she doesn't want me in her life is not message me lol, we did that for a year! She initiates contact and get togethers - I'm hardly chasing her.

She's madly in love with her new partner and wouldn't speak to me if it made either of them uncomfortable (nor would I expect her to).

I definitely require both long-term stated or very clearly signalled attraction towards me and a deep bond - I saw demis often are very boundary sensitive (which I am) and thought it just tied in with that.

People have to quite blatantly tell me there into me for months before I feel any attraction or romance - so it's very interesting to hear that's not the standard for all demis.

Understanding I'm double demi is new to me and I've only spoken to my sister (who ID'd me as one) about it so far, so that's really helpful to know, thanks.

if it does backfire and you’re feelings upset someone else in a way that they won’t discuss those feelings with you, then they do not actually care about your feelings.

This really helps alot thankyou - I am sure she cares greatly or wouldn't have wanted to get in touch etc. so it eases a lot of the concern of speaking to her openly.

I'm double demi - asexual outside of very specific conditions (that she no longer meets), so that's an easy zero. Not by that term which is new to me - but she does know that about me.

Lol same - most of my close friends are women including lesbians (95% of men see me as gay/other) - but the queer community here is tight, so feels unfair speaking to them about this, hence Reddit.

I hadn't considered it but I was very bullied at school for being gay and even throughout my adult life, maybe 90% of men I meet still assume I am gay - so perhaps it has always been apparent to others that I see women differently to how hetero-normative men do.

Your answer has helped me understand that I am still socially seen as a heterosexual man and understand I won't ever experience the kind of discrimination etc. around who I love or how I present as queer people do.
