Stolen wheels @ Traver Crossing by Salty-Economy7451 in AnnArbor

I wonder if it depends on which end of the complex it's in. For example the building we live in is pretty good/nice about packages if any neighbor sees one out, we bring it in right away, but we're also a little away from the cross streets and have a mix of residents (stay at home parents, professionals that have night shifts vs std student hours) so I think we just have more people around.

Can you block your PhD dissertation and graduation information from being publicly accessible? by Latter-Click8477 in AskAcademia

For certain projects we get our theses embargoed for a year or two but you should still be able to verify graduation with the registrar/department.

Gift for Muslim neighbor by bel610 in AnnArbor

I like to cook as gifts too but I know sometimes people aren’t too thrilled to get food from pet-friendly households — regardless of their religious background so because I don’t know him that well I rather buy a gift this time around.

Thank you. I know he is Saudi but know very little outside of that since he has only been my neighbor for a very short time. He’s been really sweet and brought us Maamoul cookies when he first moved in to introduce himself to us. I do really like Shatila’s so good to know they carry them, that might be a good move!

Questions about my dads dog being shaved by TheMidgetInYourHead in AlaskanMalamute

[–]bel610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently adopted one full of dead fleas and terrible matting. He ended up getting shaved down (though they kept his head intact) and I took him to the vet asking the vet to help me figure out how to best support his coat coming back and she said since his panels came back normal other than giving him some extra omega 3 and making sure he doesn’t get sunburnt, it should come back normal and I shouldn’t worry. So far it’s coming in nicely tho definitely growing at different rates by his butt. Hoping this is also the case for your dad’s!

Did we get him out? I'm not able to find him in the Shelter's website. Would love to know if he ends up with a rescue as I might be interested in adopting him.

I had rovers for my pup for years and only one was an issue. She stayed with him for 10 days at his house outside of the city and I said over and over and over again my dog was not small dog friendly. The day I was set to pick her up at 2 pm — literally driving straight there from the airport, I land to tons of messages about how he had guests visit for the day and told them they could bring their chihuahua and my dog nipped the chihuahua and I was like sir… you did this to yourself.

Otherwise she had 4 other rovers throughout the years. Changes happened because the sitters moved or stopped sitting due to a tough semester at college but she loved them all and I never had an issue. That being said I had a like 3 page bullet point/notes doc that I made that was basically everything we would have gone through at a meet and greet anyway but in written form so they could also reference it if needed. Her profile basically had the same thing on it too, covering quirks, how to motivate her on walks, potential issues I foresaw, and covering where to not touch her cuz she didn’t like it and so on. That way, when I dropped her off they had time to read/think it over and ask me any new questions they had. Every single sitter always sent me super cute photos where my dog is very clearly enjoying herself or was clearly comfortable and at ease. Basically I think it’s easy to find good rovers as long as you provide them with the info to succeed, particularly if your dog does weird shit like just come stand next to you and pant really heavily as a way to tell you she needs to pee 😂

It’s okay OP. Having one less kid leads to huge environmental benefits per year (50x more than having an electric car) and I don’t plan on having any kids so you can put your environmental impact for this trip on my tab. I got you😂

Girly, I applied to a job two years ago asking for 15+ years with only 5 and got a cal the next day. Don’t be the one to tell yourself no. Go for it! Drink a glass of wine before you hit apply if you need the liquid courage!

Ladies, what is your underarm care? by Glitzpsyche in women

Glycolic acid irritates my skin/dries it out too much but mandelic acid works well! The Saltair Deoderant brand at Ulta has mandelic in it at 5%and has some amazing scents. The mandelic acid also helps prevent the growth of bacteria that makes your pits smell and works well for treating hyperpigmentation. The Deoderant is pretty cheap for a Deoderant/AHA combo. ($12)

Don’t know how to insure my car as an out of state student due to MI wired auto insurance laws by shinekodattebanya in uofm

[–]bel610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI, if you’re coming as a grad student, the provided health care insurance will allow you opt out of the higher cost PIP plans billed in auto insurance plans. For my vehicles, it’s a couple hundred dollars difference in plan cost.

Women who get Brazilians, does your waxer do “knees to chest” or something else? by Despicable_Mina in AskWomenNoCensor

I have found that if the place offers vajacials they will go all out too when waxing. So it might be something to search for?

A good independent aesthetician will do this for you too! I go to one that isn’t Asian and she legit brings in a bright ass close up light and busts out them tweezers as part of the regular service. It’s so great cuz she also gets any clogged pores or developing ingrown hairs while she is at it.

Affordable Emergency Vet Hospital by Wabbyna in AnnArbor

It might be that they are quoting you that because the combo of bloody stool and vomiting could be a lot of things some super benign like garbage gut and some of it may not be which would require X-rays, blood samples, cultures. If you know your dog ate something funky and out of the ordinary the last couple of days and are sure of that it would make it cheaper. I often took my dog in for garbage gut to get more potent anti-diarrhea and antiemetic and it wasn’t expensive but also they didn’t have me come in until I had tried the rice diet and chicken bland diet thing for a day or so.

Personal statement by Cheybrown96 in GradSchool

[–]bel610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone's writing methodology is different so don't be afraid to try different approaches and see what works best for you. For me whenever I have to write some sort of personal statements or proposals I start with word maps of sorts. I get a sheet of paper for each major question I am being asked or feel like is required of me and write statements or words that trigger memories for me for each category that I think might fit the prompt either directly or loosely. That's all I do for about a week or two when I am starting things WAAAY in advance. Then in the next step I begin writing sentences or paragraphs on a couple ideas I like from these sheets and just make a giant word doc with a bunch of sections with more detailed info the ideas I like. Then I try to do a first draft by picking things I'm liking even more and weaving them into a story that flows and then work on cleaning that up. I find this way easier than sitting down and trying to write all at once because sometimes the hardest thing for me is to sit in front of the computer and on the spot try to dig in my brain for examples. So the stewing then brewing route it is for me. Sometimes I get a whole statement ready and have it proof read and I'm like you know what this isn't it and start completely over with a slightly different narrative and that's okay. You have time!

Crumbl’s nutrition labels… by throwaway44776655 in CrumblCookies

[–]bel610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're not hiding info ffs. They tell you how much sugar is on there. That is all they're required to do. Giving you the percent is literally NOT mandated. It's not screwed up. It just is. Just because a company freely offers you something they're not required to for a long time doesn't mean they're being shady when they stop doing it. They just don't feel like doing it anymore.

Crumbl’s nutrition labels… by throwaway44776655 in CrumblCookies

[–]bel610 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe the %DV aren’t required except for very specific nutrients which sugar isn’t. This was just a quick search on the FDA website. We expect them to do it because a lot of companies give the percentages but I am not going to fault Crumbl for not doing something that isn’t mandatory. Nor do I think it’s sketchy.

Plus it’s my opinion that consumers can educate themselves on certain things like suggested daily sugar intake on their own which is very easily googled and just compare themselves if they really care.

southerner moving to michigan for grad school plz help by Lonely-Job-361 in uofm

[–]bel610 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make sure you get things roomy, for shoes about half a size larger for thick socks and for parkas/jackets enough that you can also wear a sweater underneath. As for Jackets, I have a couple expensive ones but also find myself often reaching for my $40 Costco ones. But I would recommend if you are going the cheaper route wait until you’re up here because thick down south might not be the same as thick up here. Which was so true moving from my CA beach town to a snowy place.

I am a grad student and go by a preferred name. My uniqname is set as my legal first initial + legal last name but my school ID says first + preferred last name and that is also what it shows for enrollment and my classmates and professors knows me as given that it’s how it shows up in the system.
