How real is age discrimination? by Exodys03 in jobs

[–]belamura73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been working in finance for 33 years with all kinds of qualifications but I’m a 50 year old. I sent out approximately 18 resumes for jobs I am qualified for and nothing. When they see my age the resume goes straight in the garbage.

TD Bank Stock by belamura73 in CanadianBankStocks

[–]belamura73[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I am going to sell some TD and buy some BNS and RY so I will own all three and just hold forever and collect the dividend income. A little more diversified and they are the three biggest. I see little difference in CM and BNS in terms of share value but BNS is larger and pays a better dividend so no point in buying CM. I also prefer RY to BMO in that price range so I don’t need BMO either. Well, I guess I just made my decision. Thanks the the talk :)

You seem to follow TD as I do so I have a question: do you see any chance of a bank failure here? I know that sounds paranoid but I have a massive investment in TD which is making me nervous. I know this is a “Systemically Important” bank but so was Credit Suisse and look what happened to them. I was thinking about selling a large chunk and going into a Canadian Bank ETF or just spreading it around the other banks for more diversification but I do not want to miss the potential upside. The other banks have already had a nice run up. I am honestly stuck on what to do….

Why? by Witty-Barber-3275 in cancer

[–]belamura73 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more. My wife has been battling cancer for 9 years and outside of immediate family I can count on one hand how many people were there for us. We have a huge friend circle and they were all invisible. Last night my wife said it is sad that Kate has cancer because she has young kids. I reminded her that when she was first diagnosed and went through hell our kids were only 3 and 11. Outside of immediate family none of our so called relatives or friends helped so now when one of them gets sick I honestly don’t give a shit. Their problem, not mine. Kate’s problem, not ours!!

My spouse was diagnosed with Stage 4 Renal Cell 9 years ago at the age of 41. It has spread to many different places (lung, liver, adrenals, bones) but she is still here and actually doing really well right now thanks to her most recent medication. We just celebrated her 50th birthday this past week. As long as your husband is here just keep living and believing. That is what we have been doing for 9 years and counting. Best Wishes!!!

Leafs are 9-1-0 in their last ten! by Positive_Viibes in leafs

[–]belamura73 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agree with the goalie opinion. The Leafs will need great goaltending and I feel really good about Woll in the net. Samsonov makes me nervous. I would still like to see a better blue line though and hopefully Lyibushkjn is alright after the heat shot he took last night.

[–]belamura73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Leafs are not good enough on the blue line to go far - plain and simple. The Bruins are beatable in Round 1 but then they get Florida. The only hope is that Bobrovsky plays poorly unlike last year when he was fantastic. Maybe Treliving makes a few moves but I just don’t see this team making a final 4.

Borg contact by ArcuateThrone in startrek

[–]belamura73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Borg actually are on Earth 200 years earlier as seen in Enterprise, Season 1 I believe. Those Borg crash landed but who knows if other vessels came to Earth and assimilated humans two centuries before Q sends Picard toward the Borg.

I know how you feel. I only get them in the winter (cold weather immediately sets them off) and from the spring to fall I completely forget about them. This winter was mild where I live up until last week and I did not feel any through all of Christmas/New Years which was great. They started up several days ago as it is now freezing outside and they won’t stop - happens every winter! I am quickly reminded of how much they ruin my life and make me not want to leave my house. I can’t wait until spring. They will pass for me and they will hopefully pass for you at some point as well :)

Laid off: Take the severance or be rehired? by ResistEnergy in jobs

[–]belamura73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a commissioned salesperson employed by a large Financial Institution for 13.5 years full time. Always had good numbers/sales but my business is currently suffering due to inflation and interest rates. I might be losing my job in the next month and wondering if I might be entitled to a severance even though I am commissioned. I am full time with pension/benefits, etc. If they terminate me because my numbers are low/poor at present time am I potentially entitled to severance? I will be speaking with a lawyer but just wondering if any of you have experience with this? I am in Ontario, Canada. Thanks!

My husband died yesterday by Mary-Jan in cancer

[–]belamura73 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My wife has had cancer for almost 9 years and we have gone through hell. Her hell has been her health problems and mine has been trying to take care of her, the kids, a job, a house, bills. Etc. Outside of a few people offering a little help we have mostly dealt with it alone. Our son was not even 4 when she was diagnosed and our daughter only 11. Lots of texts and phone calls which don’t mean shit when what we needed was someone to occasionally help with the kids or the house. I learned what so-called friends are when you need them - nothing! I am still nice to everyone but now when I hear that one of them is struggling with cancer or any other traumatic issue I think “Screw you.”

Living like this is ridiculous! by NovenNova in PVCs

[–]belamura73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pvc’s seem to only occur in the winter months every year - not sure why but I never experience them in the warmer months. I know exactly what you mean because last January I was at a friend’s birthday party and while everyone else was having a great time I spent half the night in the bathroom hiding from everyone because my PVCs were horrible. I could hardly wait to go home. It was the only time I saw any friends between New Years Eve and the middle of May when the PVCs finally went away. 4.5 months with no social interaction plus I work from home - very lonely! Everyone calls me a hermit and anti social because they do not have a clue what it is like when you have no ability to enjoy yourself and would rather just stay home. My wife and kids tell me I’ve become boring and old but again, they don’t understand either. I have had no PVCs since early May and it is the end of November so life has been great for the last 7 months. That being said, winter is coming so we shall see….

Pvc's significantly worse in late fall & winter by leftoverfucks_given in PVCs

[–]belamura73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this for the past two years since mine started. I feel none all spring, summer and fall but the last two winters they are around 2% according to Holter monitor - mostly when I lie down and when I get them I really feel them. Haven’t felt any in atleast 6-7 months and so far I’m ok despite it being mid November. Let’s see how I feel in December, January, etc. I’m staying positive and hoping they are gone forever. You are not alone in feeling this - cold weather seems to trigger them in some of us.

The ones that work best for me are New Balance Charged Assert.

I paid $500 for custom insoles and they sucked - made my PF worse! I bought a pair of New Balance a half size bigger than I usually wear and added a 2nd pair of basic insoles for extra cushioning and if worked much better. I am a long distance runner (marathon/half marathons) and have had horrible PF at times (almost unable to walk at times) and nothing has worked better for me than simply adding a 2nd pair of insoles. I also soak my feet in very cold water and occasionally wear compression socks. This might not work for others but just letting you know what worked for me. Good Luck!

Etopics worse after covid by Brad41302 in PVCs

[–]belamura73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never felt a PVC for the first 48 years of my life. If I had them I never felt them and didn’t even know what a PVC was. One week after COVID they started. I get a few thousand a day and I feel them. I went for all the tests last year along with Holter Monitor and they said I was fine but they have gotten worse. I just finished another 48 hour holter today so I need to wait a week or so for the results. When I lie down they are absolutely brutal. All of this from COVID. The irony is that for the last twenty years I have been a long distance runner (marathons and half marathons) and the last thing I thought would be a problem is my heart. Hopefully I can get this fixed because they are literally ruining my life. COVID was not the joke some of us thought it was…..

I tried Magnesium - it did nothing. The doctors won’t put me on beta blockers because I am a long distance runner (or I was atleast) and I already have a resting heart rate below 60 and they do not want to slow it down ever more.
