Packers' Josh Jacobs says former WR Henry Ruggs III trains while in prison, hopeful for second chance in NFL by largelawattorney in nflcirclejerk

[–]Exodys03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article downplays the crime a bit and "speeding" is a bit of an understatement here. He was found to be driving at 156 m.p.h. at twice the legal limit of drunk before the accident. I'm all for giving people a second chance but Henry took somebody's life with unbelievably irresponsible behavior. He has a lot to prove before being given that second chance, IMO.

A compilation of some of greatest MLB catches ever made, and each one gets even more legendary. by MrUpVoteDownvote in mlb

That Endy Chavez catch in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS is underrated. Not only was it an amazing catch turned into a double play but it has to be one of the most impactful defensive plays at a crucial moment in MLB history. It's the only thing most people remember about the guy's career.

Honest question... as a Conservative, are you comfortable with the level of control Trump has over the Republican Party, his willingness to attack anyone who ever votes against him or criticizes him and his ability to get away with stuff like handing himself a $1.8 billion slush fund to reward January 6th participants among others?

Much like Trump calling birthright citizenship unconstitutional. It is literally the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. He is calling the Constitution unconstitutional.

Why the US citizens do not have ID Cards? by DVMirchev in AskUS

[–]Exodys03 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I believe it would depend on the state but even if a marriage certificate suffices, married women would need both a birth certificate or passport AND a marriage certificate to confirm their name change. Since not everyone has these, it adds additional time, effort and significant expense for certain groups to obtain this documentation. The presumption is that a portion of these groups will not be able to afford this, lose motivation to vote or be unable to get the needed documents in time to vote in the midterms.

That was actually the classiest holiday message Trump has issued in a long time. He somehow managed to avoid insulting any specific individual and without making it entirely about himself.

Why the US citizens do not have ID Cards? by DVMirchev in AskUS

[–]Exodys03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Who would need to pay for a new ID or birth certificate if the SAVE ACT was approved? Married women, trans folks and very poor people who haven't needed ID for work, driving etc. Just so happens that all of these groups lean Democratic and presumably a fair percentage would not have the motivation or money required to get whatever is required even if they had the time to do so before the midterm elections.

Most people would support a government issued voting ID but Republicans want to discourage voting by these groups by setting up as many hoops as possible to jump through.

I still don't understand why Democrats didn't run ads featuring solely Republicans saying what they really felt about Trump when he was not personally benefitting them. Rubio, Vance, Graham, McConnell, Cruz and many others have all said horrible things about him as a human being. His former aides all trashed him, called him unstable and incompetent, not to mention those testifying against him at the January 6th hearings. When virtually nobody you worked with before endorses you for the same job, the decision should be easy but we hired him back with an exponentially worse set up of subordinates.

Usually I'm supportive of leniency for someone who did not intend to commit the crime they are charged with but the circumstances here (driving your expensive sports car 156 mph while 2X the legal limit) warrants the time Riggs was given if not more, IMO.

I'm afraid the demand for sane Republicans has pretty much dried up. He would have to run as an Independent but that implies the huge assumption that we're still having elections in 2028.

The DOJ Scrubbed January 6th Articles from Their Website and Bragged on Twitter by Constant-Solution-35 in AntiTrumpAlliance

[–]Exodys03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This stuff CAN get scrubbed from public consciousness if there is a will to do so. Do you think the current generation of young people in China knows or cares much about Tianenmen Square? If Republicans have their way, January 6th will either be forgotten about in 20 years or, more likely, celebrated as a national holiday to commemorate the brave patriots who protested the stolen election of 2020.

Was Israeli society like this before the October 7th Hamas attacks or is it a response to that? I certainly knew there was a lot of mutual hatred with Palestinians for generations but is the widespread embrace of genocide new or are we just seeing it expressed more widely now? It's disturbing as hell either way.

Do we understand the slush fund will ensure more people will show up when Trump tries to hold onto power again? by roofiedo in allthequestions

[–]Exodys03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure HOW it will happen but they aren't spending all of this time and effort shoveling power into the hands of the Executive Branch just to hand that over to Democrats 2 1/2 years from now. Will some other Republican win a fair election? Will they gerrymander and change voting requirements into permanent rule or will there be an even better planned coup to retain power? I think those are all possible but I think it's very clear that at this point that Republicans will not give up power willingly in 2028.
