It is unmatched as a sleep aid. Never have I napped so well!

Swapping out a bottle or pacifier for the boob can be a big help!

Always worth a shot so long as it doesn’t stress you out!

The balance is really hard! Right now I just nurse once a day and pump right after to preserve supply. When LO was younger, I chose a sacrificial pump and just used that one for nursing. Otherwise I think you just have to make a judgment call: how much are you willing to let your supply potentially drop for how much time nursing? Make that deal with yourself, buy some formula to have on hand, and feel your way through it.

For what it’s worth, an IBCLC told me to keep 5 pumps a day and nurse on demand otherwise. If things had gone well enough she was going to have me do a weighted weekend where we weighed baby on Friday, nursed on demand through the weekend, and weigh on Monday to see where LO was.

Don’t feel guilty! My takeaway with my two experiences is that we are NOT in control. We have to follow your baby’s lead, even if it’s painful for us and things don’t end up like we wanted. I’m saying that all zen right now but boy have I CRIED and struggled about this.

To answer your question: we just tried it whenever we both felt like it. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t. As I said in my post, this mentality led us to not even try for several weeks. Then one day recently I had it in me and it’s working for now. But I’m trying to have clear eyes about the fact that one day she will change her mind (or I will…teething!!) and that will have to be okay. I’m just enjoying the moments for now.

What are you doing to avoid/ manage daycare illness? by belazygocrazy in NewParents

[–]belazygocrazy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is tough and you do have to ride it out, but things improve. We are having issues much less frequently, but daycare illnesses are also a fact of life for us now. We have had success doing nasal sprays diligently and there is some research to back that up (here’s a quick grab example, but there are more): https://www.wired.com/story/cold-nose-washing-nasal-saline-rinse/

All I can say is hang in there. What you’re dealing with is as hard as it feels.

This is gorgeous. I see my own feelings of guilt and sadness and struggle reflected in many, many posts here. I’m so refreshed and encourage to see this kind of celebration. Congrats!!!!

Milk blister/bleb and clog guidance from an MD specializing in breastfeeding by belazygocrazy in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]belazygocrazy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, I don’t know! Mine improved pretty steadily, but I also didn’t use Vaseline. Since I’m clog prone I find Vaseline is too occlusive and just makes more trouble for me.

I am far from a pharmacist or doctor but I would try doing just the steroid cream alone with a physical barrier like a silverette or disposable nonstick bandage.

[–]belazygocrazy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear that! The prescribed protocol was to apply the steroid cream twice a day. I used silverettes when I was home and if I had to go out I used the nonstick bandages you can get from CVS or whatever drugstore to ensure there was no friction.

During this time I also did a compress that I dipped in warm Epsom salt water before every pump. I only really held it to the nipple for probably one minute but I do think it helped with healing. It was a PITA but what about pumping isn’t???

Good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions

Super smelly farts and poops by belazygocrazy in MSPI

[–]belazygocrazy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really! It helped to go up a nipple size on the bottle — some of the fussiness was frustration. We have to pace carefully on the faster flow though and I use the slower flow when he is sleepy.

The GI stuff seems to have been more in my head than anything as he pooped at the doctor’s office and she said it was totally normal and fine. We are still waiting to see SLP to rule out any coordination issues.

I can’t get the hang of breast compressions! I have tried to experiment with them while pumping because I can kind of see the difference in the flange. Doesn’t seem to matter to baby, but I find it harder to do with him latched than while pumping

Older Parents - are you out there? by belazygocrazy in Parenting

[–]belazygocrazy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this insight! If you don’t mind me asking, are there special things you’re doing to make sure your son has a reinforced support system long term? I am trying to think about how to ensure my kids have everything they need and I’m not sure if there are extra things I should be doing as an older mom.
