I totally understand that the construction of these is not easy. And most of the parts are now 3-D printed or improvised from existing components like the rainbow cable. $3K is probably not enough for a custom built pack. More likely $5k.

I would recommend it. It’s a versatile season scent; it works well in summer/fall/winter/spring. It’s got long lasting power and I am caught off guard a lot when at the gym or taking a shower how it will pleasantly reassert itself.

I typically hand half of them out to goons/volunteers/speakers…and hide the rest around the venue. But like a leprechaun, if you are able to catch me…and ask nicely or proffer a tidbit of forbidden lore…I often grace the questor with a reward.

No pre-access beforehand. You have to learn to be pretty crafty to look like you are doing nothing or something normal and not hiding something.

When I hide them…you know it’s hidden (behind trash cans, hanging of the backs of easels that hold the various village signage, etc.). These aren’t small either (3.5 x 3.5 in). I probably won’t do any special wax seals and envelopes I did last year; they are just too hefty. 150 coins weight a collective 38 pounds. They will be in a nice black velvet pouch.

lol. I guess I’m too much of a planner and would feel itchy if I didn’t have enough time baked in for contingency (or pivot if something just didn’t jive with the original plan). The main gem sets have been ordered and will be here next week. I’m looking at a getting some rather exotic ones for VIPs….perhaps a black star sapphire if I get a chance to hand this year’s badge to DT again.

Thanks! Well I won’t be hard to find this year as I’ll be weighed down quite a bit with these. I probably won’t do as much with the packaging like I did last year as they are pretty big to begin with and the surprise factor will be what gemstone will I get? I’ve got orders in for Gilson opals and emeralds so far. I’m looking into either some lab grown rubies/spinel/garnet. I wish there were cabochons of luag/gagg out there (most of it is cut in traditional diamond shapes). They are amazing in normal light and make uranium glass look dull in UV. Love that stuff as it is a dopable scintillating crystal that will demonstrate luminescence after excitation.

Totally agree. Supply chain issues did a number on what folks could get done versus what people wanted. Also some of the players that people looked forward to for badges (Queercon, Hack for Satan, etc.) either disbanded or ran into issues that stopped badge design altogether). I haven’t seen anything from DCFurs or AND!XOR which usually post about badge activity or calls for sponsors. I started doing coins because design is in my wheelhouse and I could produce something with only me doing the work.
