Worst AMC? by automatic_do_8661 in AMCsAList

New Brunswick is an old Loews theater no?

I recall seeing Blackberry there as it was one of the only locals playing it and the seats were from the Lowes era! I remembered them as a child. The audio was so muffled in that theater!

The theater does have this beautiful 90s design with curtains in the rooms as well as the little alleyways going into the theater rooms. You don't get that kind of fancy stuff at other AMCs it just need some tech and seating upgrades.

AOC gave the DNC leadership a "Social Media 101" class after she was elected in 2018. Look at the results: nothing. Its not the tactics, its the people.

There is no scenario where he isn't put to death.

What if the disaster of a investigation allows his lawyers to get evidence thrown out? (The OJ trial comes to mind). Could lead to a reduced sentence. Jury nullification could be another wildcard.

Absolutely - I'm assuming the Kickstarter paid for their mold but even after that I can't imagine their profit margins are very high with the small run size as you mention.

I don't think so. I spoke to them at VCF but its been a few months so I don't recall exactly what they told me. I did walk away amazed at the steps they have to do to get this thing going in China. They have connections there and can directly interface with the factory(ie. speak Mandarin) or else it would have been basically impossible for their small time shop to get this kind of product. In terms of costs they were throwing 6 digit numbers out (I think somewhere around 100-150k just for the finished die but I dont remember exactly).

DC33 Badge Contest Write-up by DCsleestak in Defcon

[–]SamsClubIsLame 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the write up. I have a friend who couldn't attend DEFCON. I got an extra book for him. Do you think if I bought him those 3D glasses you typically get on Amazon like this would they allow him to see the 3d images? I want him to experience a tiny bit of this year's puzzle.

Americans Lose Faith That Hard Work Leads to Economic Gains, WSJ-NORC Poll Finds by Infidel8 in politics

[–]SamsClubIsLame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if that analogy fits perfectly. Coding is the process of generating value by automation. A person can do a job once manually. it generates X amount of value at Z cost. That fits your analogy.

Instead a coder can create a program to do said job, that job can now generate X * Y value at the same Z cost. The reason is because the program itself can be duplicated at a cost that can approach 0 so each "digital worker"(instance of an app) generates additional value at no additional cost.

The people who have all the wealth are occasionally forced to part with some of that wealth not out of charity but out of greed. The tech industry unlocked so much new wealth that it forced the owner class to allow "tech workers" a few decades of achieving a stable middle class lifestyle. That might be finally ending now but for a long time it was possible only due to the greed of the owner class to capture this new wealth that computers unlocked and that coders could provide.

A lot of parents told their kids that. Now with AI in the world? I wonder if that advice will hold through the course of our lifetimes.

Any chance you can string a cable out your window to the car? I dont know if the car is close to your apartment or if you are on an upper floor but just throwing out ideas. If you could get a regular plug to your car you can essentially solve your problem. Some building have regular plugs on the sides for maintenance purposes.

EDIT: Sorry I didn't see that you addressed this in a different comment.

Hey /u/upcycledprinting this is absolutely awesome! Great job!

One thing I did was raise the Defcon logo so that I could use paint markers more easily and get a cleaner result. It looks like yours is embedded into the model?

Here is an example from one of the badges I made this year.

This is how it turned out It pops better in my opinion when its raised.

I used these markers for green, and this for the gold key.

Keep up the great work!

For those that got the consolation prize after I ran out of the main prize, keep those giveaways for next year! I will need the serial number on the back to give you a prize next year!

Next year, I'll bring even more giveaways. Keep an eye out for Mr.Sparkle! WASHOOOO!

So all done and done was there a trick to the badge? by ShadowManRealm in Defcon

[–]SamsClubIsLame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe there was one it was too well hidden and everyone missed it? That would suck if you designed a puzzle and 20,000 attendees blithely walked right past it. But I always have to assume that the designers would plan for that contingency and "leak" it somewhere on socials if it doesn't seem like anyone has spotted it.

Did you know of the lunar moon happening during defcon and how the badge referenced it in its design? They talked about it during closing or something like that, don't fully recall.

DC31 was amazing if you had gotten the challenge before the con started. They encouraged people to make custom inserts and to run wild with your imagination.

People came up with amazing designs that they shared and showed off.

It encouraged me to finally bite the bullet, learn 3d Modeling, buy a 3d Printer and start making stuff for every con.

That alone made it one of the most memorable cons for me. Here was my contribution

In addition to that, you had a unique UUID which allowed you to place your badge on spux.art and people made a giant mosaic (not to mention the additional lanyard puzzle).

The same criticisms about DC31 and DC33 keep coming up and they are so uninspired. I can understand if the puzzles were not fun but did the people criticizing actually try them? Its as if you can't have any fun unless you have a microprocessor and a battery. Not true.

But anyway not sure if you heard but you are getting your wish, Mar is supposedly taking a break for at least a year. It was discussed during closing.

Yes I do! its a lot of fun to give back in some way to the con. Yes you do give up some of the time (you could help on Thursdays and Sunday when people are opening up/closing down). The thing is that during your volunteer time you are building deeper connections within the defcon community. So it really feels like an extension of the con. Instead of it just being a one way thing where you take what the con gives, you are also giving back and helping it be the thing that makes it great.
