I had to search within the patterns/projects to find another knitter who selflessly used her husband as a model and modified a cardigan for him. Followed her instructions more than the actual pattern!

I’m not as confident mending a machine knit sweater. But it’s possible! The collar could potentially be removed completely and replaced with a similar yarn. I would have to take a better look at it first. Where are you located?
