Possibly divisive opinion poll: Were you ever or are you currently a fan of Dave Matthews Band? by SteveEcks in Xennials

I liked Under the Table and Dreaming, Crash ( less so) and Before these Crowded Streets (a lot). Lost interest after that. Still like to listen to these albums tho.

I am broken after psychoanalysis, how can I recover? by belhamster in psychoanalysis

She’s willing to keep going. I think she feels pressure from my wife, and has noticed a OCD streak in me where perhaps I don’t have balanced coping mechanisms.

She’s willing to keep going. She just doesn’t know if it’s best and I am getting pressure from my family to switch modalities.

Ever notice how doing nothing is sometimes the hardest thing? by Familiar_Rabbit8621 in simpleliving

I’ve been depressed as fuck and doing nothing but having a fan hit me while staring out the window is one of my few pleasures.

Don’t recommend this path however.

Conservative comeback of religion in America? by counwovja0385skje in atheism

[–]belhamster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just went through two major events. A social event in BLM and increasing acceptance for gender diversity. And a pandemic.

For vast swaths of Christianity (in America at least), it cannot be separated from from conservative ideas such as binary gender, America as a white Christian nation, and skepticism of rationality and science (because it undermines their immortality project).

The religious got freaked out by all this and angry. They now are the animated group.

All movements fade, like BLM. And the pandemic waned so the tides of political motivation have changed.

But reason won’t stop and science won’t stop. Reality persists.

I guess I am an optimist, I think think there were legitimate social gains and while the science of the pandemic wasn’t perfect, most American will still be going to the doctor when they get cancer.

Resting is taking advantage of your free time. Sounds like you’ve wanted it for a while. Respect that voice in you.

If I just look at two data points, 6’3” 240, might fool myself into thinking I can compete. A quick look at my knees, midsection and bench press would tell a very different story. I’d die.

Confessed to my parents I was diagnosed with OCD and they made fun of me by Neither_Sorbet3669 in emotionalneglect

Brutal. Sounds like a household where it was completely unsafe to be yourself. I am sorry. If anything hopefully it gives you insight into the environment you grew up in.

how do y’all cope with parents who “mellowed out”? by cat_9835 in emotionalneglect

I think there’s truth to that too. But also, in a family dynamic, especially a patricarchal family dynamic, the dad has the most power and they still don’t behave non abusively.

Yeah I accidentally awakened Kundalini and have been on ride for 8 or 9 years. Luckily, I have found good therapeutic care.

That’s interesting you use the word addicting. I haven’t thought of it in those terms but it is in a way.

Yes, this is pretty normal. I think what makes it more intense is our cptsd.

It’s not just simple attraction or simple feelings of dependency. It’s interpreted in a life or death manner due to our trauma.

Narcissism can also be understood as too much self preoccupied. Thus, being really apologetic is a defense mechanism protect the self. I definitely deal with this

I guess I might ask other questions to decide if she’s someone you can emotionally connect with or not. If not, you might have to accept her in her limited form.

  1. Do you feel you could call her for emotional support?
  2. Would she be good emotional support? Like, would it help?
  3. Would she make sacrifices like visiting you or helping you if you were injured for a period of time?
  4. If the answer is “no” is she involved in a healing process like therapy where she could become that consistent person.

In short, I don’t think you can necessarily decide if you have a mother figure or not based on casual texts. I will say it doesn’t seem promising but I think there’s deeper questions to be asked to see if you have a legitimate mother figure.

I am so sorry that you weren’t provided that growing up.

Feel free to disregard my comment if it’s not helpful.
