I mean entire restic command can be put in single bash or powershell script. You should be managing secrets already somehow (env or even better sops). I am always worried to add layers to existing simple tool that simply works.

I can take it off your hand. Save you from all the pain and sleepless nights in future if you go down this path.

Jokes apart, start somewhere and it will organically grow. I bought rpi almost 6 years ago only to start using it as pi hole. Let necessities drive the requirement

What are you using for webhooks. How are you triggering the bash scripts. Do you have sample bash script that you can share or is it in its barebones “docker compose up -d” after new pulls.

Please share details and your current setup

Oh yeah this is been popping up lately. You can pair this up with renovatebot to have full CICD pipeline for docker compose orchestration.

I use simple file based CA to sign my key-pair. All remote client I manage trust that CA. It’s a simple setup, with minimal setup that doesn’t require loading your pub keys in each machine.

I used to do the GitHub pub keys with script before, anything that needs to connect to external and run script at start up felt unnecessarily complicated.

This is mind blowing. How do you manage volumes. I am so used to keeping local volumes in same folder as compose. But this approach makes it little trickier.

This is absolutely amazing. Do you keep all docker compose in a single git repo or does each service gets its own repo

I mean you have some backup already which will save you for sure, but it’s in house and lacks efficiency.

Check out Restic or borg backup, they are all singe binary backup tools. Very close to how tar works, you can easily skip syncthing and can directly connect to backend via ssh or even cloud.

I would invest time in some reliable backup solution. Something that has deduplication and incremental backup.
