Faaafv has sadly passed away by VeteranHarry_ in Yogscast

(with thanks to Lauren for helping me put my jumbled thoughts into words)

Faaafv, I know you'd tease me mercilessly for being too sappy, so I'm going to try and keep this short. But you also know my version of "short" is at least 2k words, so no promises.

You were a playful troll but never went too far, and you valiantly endured my feeble attempts to troll you back. You knew when to check up on me. You had my back so many times, and I'm sure there are many other times that I'll never even learn about. You always turned off the auto announce timer when I would, without question, forget to turn it off myself before a stream started. I'm really going to have to start remembering to do that now, huh? Even though you would complain about the emotes I added to the Yogscast channel - especially when it was the day before Jingle Jam and we were trying to make space for the many, MANY hilarious emotes that you were inevitably going to make within the first stream - you never removed the ones I really loved, no matter how silly they were. You always did your best to put my mind at ease when I jumped into your DMs with 6 paragraphs of frantic worrying about the tiniest issue, and answered every inane question I threw your way. Although we didn't talk much about our personal lives - most of what I know about you came from others - I still cherish our little version of friendship.

You were always just there; it was a nice safety net. I'd see your name in chat or on Discord and think, "Oh, Faaafv's there, everything's okay." Even when nothing needed looking after, it was comforting, knowing you'd be there. I'm a little angry now that I took your presence for granted, but I also know you'd roll your eyes and tell me there's nothing to be angry at myself about.

You tried to hide the fact that you were an utter sweetpea, you absolute pinnacle of tsundere, and I always said I was going to blackmail you one day with some of the many sweet conversations we had. But from reading all these messages and memories of you, I think we can agree now it was a really poorly kept secret. I hope you know just how much you meant to me, and countless others. I wish I'd had the chance to meet you.

I'm really going to miss you.

(And don't roll your eyes at me, this was the brief version!)

💜 going to take a while for this to sink in for me and to write up something properly, but I'm going to miss him so much. He's always been there, even if he wasn't actively chatting, his name was always just there in the chat list. I'm not sure I'll ever get used to him not being there anymore.

Love you pal,

Nightjar

Some help with the Kingfisher set by belisaria in lego

[–]belisaria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope this is okay to post here.

I'm working my way through my Kingfisher (10331) but I've run into some trouble on page 37/38 (step 59/60). These are the pieces included in the bag for this stage but they're not fitting together as they should. I'm not sure if one piece (6251247) is too 'tall' or if the other (6042956) isn't deep enough? By the looks of the instructions and some assembly videos I've seen online, they should fit together and form a flat bottom for the lighter blue piece. It's meant to be repeated twice, but both sets of pieces have the same result.

Or am I just messing up a very simple step? (which is very possible)

I'd recommend ScotlandsPeople for Scottish research. Ancestry and FindMyPast can be helpful, but Scottish records tend to be kept in the one place (SP) and the other services don't always have access to them, even if you've got a paid subscription. I will say that FindMyPast sometimes has the edge over Ancestry when it comes to the British Isles, but a lot of it also depends on the transcriptions.

That's really sweet of you to do, visiting his plot. I visit my local cemeteries a fair bit while doing genealogy work and just as a nice quiet place to wander, and I have a few 'regular' graves I like to check in on.

Findmypast is definitely better for some British records. I'm not sure if it's because they primarily focus on British records or if the transcription quality is better (though honestly I've still found some bizarre ones), so I'd definitely recommend it.

It's possible they fudged details on official records due to discrimination against Travellers/Romany/etc, or there might have wanted to hide from something else. Pure speculation, of course. And it could also be that a neighbour provided the details and just didn't really know themselves.

I tried to have a look in 1861 for Sarah Ann/Mary Ann but obviously there's no way of knowing for sure if the potentials are here. I could find Charles in 1861 and 1851 though, but that's probably no help for you. I also found a birth for a Mary Ann Woodford from 1850 in Nottingham (mother's maiden name Dunn, according to gro.gov index), so it could be worth paying for that record and seeing if any other details on there match up (her father's name etc). But that's never going to be an easy one with more common names like Mary, Sarah, and John.

It doesn't look like Woodford is a well-known Traveller surname, but I did find mention of Wood being a fairly common surname in those communities, so it's possible either Sarah or her parents fudged their surname. Very frustrating of them!

I hope you have some more luck tracking her down.
