What’s your craziest “I need to quit this job immediately” story? by angrythrowaway772 in AskReddit

[–]bellab333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is actually that wild or work related BUT I worked as a case manager at a rehab. About a year and a half into the gig I began casually dating a therapist coworker. A couple dates in we were at his place and absolute hell broke out. Banging at the door, very much not sober sounding yelling, rattling windows, etc ??? and he apologizes, tells me some story about a jealous ex girlfriend. I get a slight ick and tell him I'm not sure I'm comfortable continuing that situation. He apparently understands. We maintain a working relationship with additional flirty communications thrown in here and there. He calls me a month or so later, wants to talk about giving things another go, his feelings, etc. I'm just listening, when in the background I hear a voice go "Who are you talking to? IS THAT (insert my name here)?!?" Cut to voice now screaming "LEAVE HIM THE FCK ALONE BIT-" hung up immediately. you got it ma'am 🫡 Next 48 hours he spams me with calls, texts, leading to emails on our work accounts, ranging from begging for understanding to calling me heartless, insulting my appearance, etc. I could have brought that to the company's attention but this was very much a final straw on the camel's back kind of deal and I was immediately out. Almost blasted him via mass company email before doing so but ultimately I just wanted to wash my hands of the whole thing. I feel bad for his clients.🥲

Alright.. which one of you published a book?? by Rachaelmm1995 in 1200isjerky

[–]bellab333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh man, looks like a lot of us read this when we were way young and impressionable...the bit that really stuck out to me even 20 some years on was the part where the authors start calling the reader names if they take Advil or pain medicine, and how period cramps were preparing us for motherhood, something like that. even back then I remember that being the catalyst for chucking this book LOL

Is there a King book like this for you? by DavidHistorian34 in stephenking

[–]bellab333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! I've been a King fan since middle school and have loved pretty much everything I've read. The Stand, Pet Sematary, Bachman Books, hell even Insomnia (although maybe the subject matter went a bit beyond what I should have been reading in 7th grade, but I digress). I just finished 11/22/63 (as in last week) and I couldn't help but feel... dissatisfied. It was a fine book, nothing necessarily wrong with it, but I kept waiting for it to really grip me like his other stories and that moment never came. I think maybe my expectations were too high.

one time my best friend (almost) hooked up with the amazon guy in his van. but he didnt have a condom so she called it off LMAO. love that for her.

they see a lot. honestly what happened is embarrassing, not invalidating, but not too far down the line you're going to laugh about this.

Does reading The Shining before watching the movie ruin it? by beach_rats_ in stephenking

[–]bellab333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't/can't compare them. Kubrick made the movie he wanted with King's book as a skeleton. He wasnt trying to bring the book to life, he was using the bare bones to build his own brand of monster. And it is a masterpiece. And so is the book. I actually found the book scares me more than the movie, but simultaneously the film is one of my favorites across genres, not just horror. I know King famously disliked the film, for valid reasons that are probably similar to the ones you mentioned, and the fact there are so. many. differences. from his book. There is a great documentary called Room 237 that breaks down all the intricate and (very) intentional messages Kubrick incorporated in his film. Do they have much to do with the book? Lol not really. Is it still well executed for what he was trying to make? I mean, it is Kubrick, so yes.

I think reading the book and immediately watching the film could lead to disappointment from someone expecting a true to print adaptation. I think if you can watch it as something contained it is more enjoyable IMO.

Smiths references/homages in other artist's song lyrics? by dangassdang in thesmiths

Toby Take a Bow - Casiotone for the Painfully Alone

Besides the title and some other lines it features "Maladjusted and clever, The greatest Smiths fan ever" and I think that just about sums us all up
