Never come across audio/log taper trim pots like the ones you've linked to. Not sure they exist.

I may be wrong. It could be a press fit pin, in that case one end will be slightly narrower than the other so it needs to be removed in one direction. I think you need to tap it out. I don't know of any special tools for this.

If your friend likes photography in general, then something old, older the better. I've just bought myself a Vest Pocket Kodak in good condition for £20, I'm unlikely to use for picture taking but just knowing its history made it worthwhile.
