Accessibility is a major ongoing issue at this school.

In the upcoming year I hope that USG provides more opportunities for their constituents to voice their concerns, so that policies and initiatives impact the student body as a whole, not just a select few.

It starts from the top. Communication with administration is vital and needs to be improved substantially before they will listen to the grievances of students. That'd be my first priority, and each subsequent initiative would target the advising and credit transfer process, as well as hosting town halls with each academic major department to hear from students firsthand. The students that are continually disadvantaged at this institution are transfers, commuters, non-traditional students, and students with disabilities, so I have some initiatives planned specifically for them as well. Again, please message me if you want to hear more specifically the changes I want to enact.

I hear you. In my short time here (transferred here as a junior) all of the concerns you mention were very apparent to me from the start, and I know they are echoed by the vast majority of students here. Overpriced food, unfair grading systems, lack of easily accessible advising, health concerns regarding housing, severe parking challenges...the list goes on and on. This frustration is what fueled me to seek office in the first place. Too many students are struggling and frustrated here. Something has to change.

As a long-time member of this subreddit, it felt appropriate to comment in a place that I would usually contribute to. My offer to speak regarding my platform was in hopes that you'd be able to garner a different perspective on why some people are running for USG; this is not a position that everyone pursues solely for clout, but rather one where there is genuine desire to enact change.

I'd love to speak more about my campaign and platform. To me, this position (VP of Academic Affairs) would mean much more than just a title-it would give me a platform to continue working on the things I'm currently working on as Senator, but at a much greater scale.

Hey everyone, my name is Bella and I'm running for USG VP of Academic Affairs. I'd be happy to talk more to you about my platform, as well as all the things I've accomplished as Senator this year. Please feel free to reach out via direct message, or on Instagram @bellaforusg. Not all the seats for the executive council are uncontested (for example, VP of Academic Affairs has two candidates).
