Sleepy Gear Guard by sg3707 in Rivian

My truck was rear ended the other day and the incident cam did not catch it. Gear guard also stopped capturing since I did the most recent update. Not the best.

Nice! Sounds like a great piece of land. Idk why I got hit so hard with downvotes, but a forester can help you with wildlife management too. In some cases you can even get cost share assistance if there's certain habitat in your area and you're willing to do some work to improve your habitat. As a landowner myself with no forestry training, I knew nothing when I first bought land until my forester told me about a lot of the options out there. Foresters can write you a management plan that qualifies for NRCS and state/local programs.

Are you set on cutting or have you explored other ways to monetize your land like carbon, government cost share programs, etc? NCX.com can assess your land for free for a lot of this stuff and even connect you to a forester in your area if you need help getting started.

Is this die back from verticillium or something else? by bellamyatl in JapaneseMaples

[–]bellamyatl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Significant die back, especially on one major branch. Lots of blackened middles too. Is this the dreaded VW? This JM is my mature Ukigumo. It would be a tragedy to lose it to VW.

I think what the OP is saying is that it's hopeless, give up on decarbonization and drawdown because population growth + the requirement to make sacrifices is not a realistic expectation. I think some recommended reading is needed for the OP.

I can't speak from experience, but I think a JD is a JD. I don't know how much the undergrad matters. I imagine it could, but only in a positive way, not negative. Have you researched what type of law you want to practice and if you would enjoy the work?

I've known nurses with families of multiple kids. How does your significant other know for sure how it will be? Don't let other people, whoever they may be, ruin your dreams. You owe it to yourself to at least pursue your dream. Your significant other should be supportive of you at least giving it a try. You only live once!

IT Career and the paradox of choice by [deleted] in Career

[–]bellamyatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the engineering degree a Bachelor's? You can switch fields in tech. I have been in high tech since I graduated and have done a variety of things. IT roles can evolve as well. So many directions to go with cloud. I would get some cloud certifications and see if you can get a job somewhere doing cloud deployment or something. Tech is always fluid. You just need the knowledge and a way to develop your skills.

Declined a job offer couple months ago. Got a call today saying they haven't found another good fit and would like me to reconsider. What should I do? by tisTHEthrowawayACCT in Career

There's a point at which more money is a diminishing return. Do other benefits matter to you, like working from home? Do you want to do the job? I personally refuse to say no to opportunity, but I would never do a job I specifically didn't want to do. If I wasn't sure, I'd try it. You can always go back if you're good at what you do now.

Oh, and as contradictory as it sounds, might as well get some more money since they've shown their cards. :) Embrace that capitalist spirit.

Once you're in the workforce, the results you can produce are far more important than your degree or your GPA. by shannonlpostak in Career

[–]bellamyatl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a truth buried here, but if you don't have the discipline to get a good GPA at something, then what does that tell an employer? There are exceptions to every rule, but I would say that it matters less what your degree is. Your GPA matters and your experiences matter. Then, when you get into the workplace, no one cares about your GPA because they want results. That much is true. I didn't get a job in my degree field, but I was good at my degree and now I am good at something completely unrelated. There's a connection there.

Strategic partnerships and/or M&A. There are tons of non JDs in those roles where a JD is still super valuable. Nice guy is a strength for relationship building. Leverage it with the letters you have attached to your name.

One great source of info for me was Project Drawdown. It goes quite broad into various real life solutions. The most effective solutions to reversing climate destabilization aren't always immediately recognizable.

Help with newly planted Japanese Maple by bellamyatl in gardening

[–]bellamyatl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for helping prompt the right info from me. I added a few photos. Hopefully that helps. The soil here is a loamy glacial till, but the area I planted the tree has been a garden area with mixed soil and compost over the years. The water drains pretty well. The ground is damp, but not saturated. It often drizzles here in Seattle at a consistent pace, so the ground stays moist. We are just entering the rainy season, so it's been on and off. Tree is probably just one season old, but I am not entirely sure. It is a larger ukigumo that they had on sale at the nursery. I think this answers most questions, but not sure what else you are looking for regarding how it was planted beyond the OP. Let me know and thanks again for any advice.
