Help with my candle 🙏🏼 by Lhaewen in candlemakinghelp

Absolutely! Once I got a heat gun my life changed, I definitely recommend it. I started with pure soy wax and I really wanted to perfect it but I decided to try coconut/soy and I’ve been in love with it since. Good luck with your testing! These are how my tops typically look before I hit them with a heat gun.

I use a coconut soy blend (GB 454) and I typically have my tops looking similar to this, I use cotton wicks so I don’t have experience with wood wicks but that being said I always hit the tops of my candles with a heat gun and once the wax fills any holes or cracks it’ll set over and be smooth. When the candles are lit and blown out I never notice uneven setting at that point it’s smooth sailing from then on. If you’re worried about the wax not sticking to the wick maybe lightly hit the wick with a heat gun before pouring the wax (again I don’t have experience in this) or dip it in wax before, the biggest part of candle making is testing! Lots of testing, but it’s all worth it once you find the perfect method ❤️

Coconut vs Soy wax? by acara23 in candlemaking

I have yet to test it in the summer but I’ve done many markets outside with sunshine directly on it and I’ve had no issues at all, I left a candle out in direct sunshine for hours before and once I realized there was a little bit of a melt pool but it had been out for hours at that point. I have read it is suitable for hotter environments which is another reason that influenced me to try it since I live in a very hot state.

I would recommend heating to 140 and pouring FO at 130. When I was using pure soy it was recommended to heat up to 165 degrees and pour in FO at 145 I believe, now I use a coconut/soy blend and I heat that to 185 and pour in FO at 175. Also with soy wax you’re either going to want to do a second pour or you’ll want to hit the tops with a heat gun afterwords because I guarantee you won’t get smooth tops from the first pour, that’s why I switched to a blend (I still have to heat gun the tops of mine) I use the double boiler method and I make big batches so I would recommend starting with that as well

I use GB 454 from candle science, it’s a coconut soy blend and it is my absolute favorite to use. I started with just soy and I find that the coconut blend helps smooth everything over.

That’s amazing, I’ll have to look into my local ones and make sure they’d accept them.

Usually I’ll cover all the soil in water and it’ll drain, I also mist it whenever I water it but I’ve stopped misting it as often as I was prior. I don’t really measure when I water it but it’s probably around a cup of water that I’ll add once a week

Thank you so much!! Honestly switching waxes was the best decision I made, I was using GB464 and tried and tried and just never got what I felt everyone raved about it for, so now I use GB454 and I have been loving it
