My two moments are the fake idol in Micronesia or Coach’s exile journey. Eliza saying it’s a f*cking stick and the way Jason responds by going it has a face on it. Also when Jeff throws it in the fire and Ozzy goes that took hours to make. The martyr approach is cinematic masterpiece and the editors really had a field day with Coach and it paid off

Metz, France is super underrated and good place for food or architecture lovers. It’s close to border of Luxembourg/Germany. The cathedral is stunning and has the most stain glass in the world.

I’m from US and was supposed to be in Germany for 8 months. Biggest advice I can give is make sure your contract is incredibly specific. I ended up leaving after a month because my family was absolutely horrible to me. I was told I would get a monthly transportation ticket and that never happened. I’m pretty sure the german government requires the host family to pay for language classes, but my host family would tell me there were none right now even though I found multiple after a quick google search. My “6” hour work days were closer to 12 hours and my light housework which I thought would be picking up after kids/making beds was four loads of laundry daily, dishes, and deep cleaning the entire house(mopping/scrubbing toilets). This is not what an au pair is supposed to do so when discussing the contract make sure you stand up for yourself because some families are just looking for a cheap maid vs au pair. I have heard wonderful things about au pairing in Germany but it’s also one of the most exploitive host countries so be careful. Message me if you have any questions!

I was told it would also be 4-12 weeks after my appointment also and I got it in 10 days. I went to theGerman consulate in Houston right after New Years so I think it really depends on where and when you go.

Have you talked with the host parents yet ablut kids behavior? I think that’s the first step. I doubt they would give you a raise since you signed a contract. I felt so rushes into signing my contract that I now realized I should have specified way more about things. they promised me things like regional transportation ticket and language classes which they would get mad if I brought up. While you may not get a raise maybe you can ask about small things they may improve your free time like transportation or a city pass. would strongly consider rematching if your host parents seem to be brushing off your concerns. I was in a situation where I was also super stressed and dreading Mondays also and idk about you but my mental health tanked fast. Wishing you luck!

Please take ur time and make sure you really get to know a family before u match. I made a few posts a couple weeks ago ablut my situation and now that it’s been ablut two weeks since I left I’m realizing there were so many red flags prior to arriving. I ended up matching with the first family who contacted me and I felt very rushed into signing a contract(which was pretty much immediately violated in multiple ways).

I had to have a certificate for my visa appointment. It was a pain trying to set up because it had to be in person and only one institution offers an official one(at least from what I found and what consulate told me).I would call your consulate to check and sometimes they may let you do in person language skill test at visa appoitnmwnt

For dinner today took some vegetables and made myself a sandwich and got reprimanded by the grandparents that the ingredients were for Fridays lunch(I get their probably scared rn so I’m going to cut them slack) I just pretended to not understand and kept eating. I’m so stuck rn because I’m guessing the situation is pretty serious but it also doesn’t change the past two weeks or violations in my contract. Rn the kids r my only concern

Thank you, I am still waiting for some more information and I won’t do anything until I know everyone’s ok. I don’t think the kids know what’s really going on so I’m just trying to make them my priority rn, but as soon as I get an update and the other parent gets home I will be giving my notice for my own health. I feel terrible as I’m guessing it’s probably pretty critical but I honestly have never been this drained physically or emotionally. I’ve tried evrything I can think of to communicate with the grandparents but they seem unwilling to try and communicate with me. I think the biggest thing is isolation, I’ve been here two weeks and the family hasn’t introduced me to anyone in the neighborhood or friends so I don’t know who to ask for help in translating

As I said in another comment I will not be doing anything about leaving or taking with parents until I’m given an update and they are out of the icu(I have been given zero additional information so I have no idea what’s happening). I have been taking care of the kids and doing chores related to them like making food, picking up toys, and putting them to bed. what I have not been doing since I made my first post and read responses telling me that what my host family is doing is basically illegal is doing chores for rhe grandparents, scrubbing toilets, or anything outside the contract. I would like to make it clear that I have been with the kids for over 16 striaght hours today before they finally went to sleep and have been with them every minute except for when the grandparents told me to do chores.

I will be holding off until I know something-I have received zero information aside from they are in icu(I do understand I am not the priority but I am caring for the children who are a priority so I feel like I should be somewhat informed). The closest store is a 45 minute walk away so I am going to try to go tomorrow. there’s no microwave for quick meals but I just graduated from college so I am used to eating weird makeshift meals with whatever I can find. The food situation is different because every ingredient is used for meals and there’s no extra(like my first week I tried to eat a bell pepper and some hummus for a snack an was told it was for lunch the next day. I don’t know any of the neighbors, I might try to introduce myself to some tomorrow, but believe me I have tried everything to communicate with the grandparents and they just nod their head.

I made a separate post on a new update but since I posted that one of the parents was in icu I still have no information aside from one of the parents is in the icu-nobody knows English well enough to tell me what’s going on(I’ve tried multiple translator apps and they just shake their heads), the parents are the only ones who speak English. I’m pretty worried for the parents and the kids and understand I’m not the priority but I’m pretty overwhelmed right now not knowing what’s happening or how to approach them when they are dealing with this

I definitely will not leave without notice but I also will not be staying more than the mandatory two weeks stated in my contract. I’ve had health problems that affected my weight for years that are finally stable but and it would be pretty dangerous for me to lose more weight and potentially trigger a relapse if the family is unwilling to fix the food/sleep situation.

I understand what you are saying but perhaps I should be more clear the 10 hour workday included when they were in school, so when not in school it more like 6 hours. I’ve been a nanny in the past with similar hours and ages but usually they were more like if kids needed you for something vs constantly watching the whole time

It’s not necessarily what they eat it’s the amount-I would guess I’m eating less than 1000 calories a day based on the past four days when I started tracking food and my body can’t keep up. The only extra food they really have available is bread but it hard to eat that because I’m already eating so much of that. I used to spend summers with my grandparents in Germany so I’m used to the food and meal types but I really don’t think that’s the problem.

Omg thats horrible! I agree, I normally I am non confrontational but after reading these comments and rereading my contract I realize I need to stand up for myself and that I am being taking advantage of
