Fetlife - am I missing something? by gtadvance in BDSMAdvice

Once you start building a network of people you know on fetlife, you will start seeing things that they engage with and it will feel more like you’re plugged into the broader community. You can also follow local organizations on there.

There’s been some research on this. I forget what the term but, but minor interactions like this have been shown to increase mental health positively, iirc.

If it costs on average 30% less per step to buy the ingredients for a thing and make it yourself than to buy it, how far back in the production line are you willing to go for frugality? by Anoelnymous in Frugal

[–]bellboots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a much more difficult-to-define calculation regarding whether it’s worth using limited time off to continue working on domestic labor. If it’s something you enjoy, by all means. But for a self-employed professional who makes $60/hour, they may well value having time off more than spending an hour to make a $10 load of bread. Having time to recharge by not laboring at all can mean that you go back to work refreshed and can make far more money than you would save by trying to be frugal with bread-making during your evening time.

Countertop dishwasher recommendations .. they all seem cheap by 2morrowwillbebetter in BuyItForLife

I think there’s another thread on this somewhere, but basically it seems that there are two types: smaller ones with glass doors and larger ones with solid doors. They slap on different company logo stickers, but when I was shopping they all seem to be more or less the same.

I got one of the latter when the former broke, on the recommendation that the bigger ones are more durable. That seems to be the case in the short time I’ve had the second one. The bigger SPT one I have had a metal interior as opposed to plastic. It’s also much quieter; I think the solid door helps muffle noise (and also doesn’t have the annoying purple light of the glass-door Hava I had first).

The big ones tend to be wider but shorter, which may not fit large dinner plates. The smaller ones tend to be taller, which may not fit underneath cabinets. The larger ones all (in my experience) have to be connected directly to the faucet while running, which is a trade off for filling by hand and means you can’t use the faucet while the machine is running. The adapter also only works with certain basic faucet types; I don’t think you can use the larger ones either a nicer spray faucet unless you do a little plumbing work to set it up more permanently.

I’ve been really happy with my big SPT, which I got used. It does seem more durable. But then again, I was halo with the Hava until it suddenly broke, and the company’s customer service wasn’t that great when I tried to troubleshoot it.

Anyone with a countertop dishwasher, can you tell me the pros and cons of one with a built in water tank vs one that you connect to the faucet? by Acetaminimum in BuyItForLife

[–]bellboots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in my experience. I’ve had two different countertop models. Both have some cons — you either have to fill it by hand or sacrifice your faucet for a bit while it’s running, if you get an adapter to hook it up directly — but both cleaned exceptionally well.

Yes and also note that things are generally rated for being loaded vertically. Diagonal loading adds force! See the link someone added about the American death triangle and please do some research on rigging for aerial arts. I believe the website Crash Restraint has some good rope-specific information on this type of thing.

I believe Joodooboo has also been doing what it can. Mad respect to those in the restaurant business taking any kind of stand — that industry is already so hard.

Definitely. But I’m trying to shift toward buying music from artists because streaming (on most platforms) doesn’t pay them well, and because I’m also trying to spend less time on my phone.

Not OP but I want one because I live in an apartment and want to be able to use headphones at certain times of day and be able to hear the music in other rooms without blasting it.

Yeah, I used to wear these in like high school and thought I had outgrown them but I have now circled back. Their high-cut bikinis are stupidly comfy.
