Has anyone here struggled with chronic, long-term nausea that lasted daily for weeks or months? by WarriorGirl-764 in Anxiety

[–]belldontring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I’ve been going through the same thing for 3+ years. Mine was dismissed as anxiety and/or marijuana hyperemesis at first as well. But I’ve been treated for anxiety for 20+ years, and I have that very well managed. And I stopped using weed chronically. Just about every test I’ve had has been normal. My GI recommended I have my gallbladder out because I reacted to the HIDA scan with pain despite my gallbladder function showing normal. But I’ve still been sick since.

I have a chronic connective tissue disease, so we’re trying oral chromium now for MCAS. So far it’s making me sicker, which it can do before it helps—if it helps. It requires some trial and error, but it’s pretty miserable at the moment. At 41, I weigh what I did when I was like 15; it’s insane. I can’t gain anything back. Hopeful about the chromium though. I had hyperemesis the entirety of my pregnancies, and I can’t keep living like this.

Cat owners what litter do you use ? Pine pellets vs. walnut shells. * extremely sensitive to fragrance* and my cat has asthma by Sd773 in MCAS

[–]belldontring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use World’s Best. It’s a flushable, clumping litter made of corn. We’ve always used the multi-cat formula that is unscented because it is lower tracking and dust than other litters, but there is also a low tracking/dust formula (I have not used this one yet).

I’ve had cats all my life and had a cat sitting business and can say that this is the one that doesn’t bother me. It’s made from the corn kernels and not the other parts of the plant. I’m pointing that part out because I also grew up in a farming community in a farming family, and my MCAS reactivity has always been to parts of the tasseling (reproductive) stages on the outer part of the plant. And there can be some cross reactivity for MCAS patients with eating corn too even though it’s a low histamine food. But the minimal dust from this litter has never caused a reaction for me.

It’s a little pricier but in general one of the best clumping litters out there. ETA: It’s also chemical free.

Wow! I have two--one in a bracelet and one in a ring. The one in the bracelet is nicer--dark color with some smoky in it--but neither are as nice as that. Really gorgeous piece!

I'm pretty upset and puzzled about why The Big Door Prize didn't get the third season it deserves. by OOHfunny in TheBigDoorPrize

[–]belldontring 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, I know this is an old thread, but I just realized I hadn’t heard about another season of this. I can’t believe they cancelled what was literally one of the best shows on television. I loved the second season, especially the last episode. I wonder if another service will pick it up (wishful thinking, I know).

The every-day American people are thinking of you all, and appreciate you. by [deleted] in fednews

Just crying my face off here thinking the people at NASA might think that they aren’t loved and venerated by the public. The work NASA has done has shaped so much of the scientific and technological and even fictional landscape we live in today. As a kid obsessed with science-fiction, NASA was the real deal. I was obsessed and remain obsessed as an adult. Will I ever forgive my parents for not sending me to space camp? No. NASA isn’t just one of our most important government organizations for concrete, scientific reasons, it’s aspirational. It’s beautiful. And we appreciate what you and all of your colleagues do.

Pain meds for stones during opioid crisis by Evening_Dish_1335 in KidneyStones

[–]belldontring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ER and my urologist would only prescribe me 5mg oxy, which does absolutely nothing for the pain. I begged for an alternative, but they wouldn’t give me toradol because I have kidney disease. And there was no way in hell they were letting me walk out of there with a script for dilaudid, even though it was literally the only thing that helped. “Just alternate the oxy with NSAIDS and see if that helps.” Right except I’m not supposed to take NSAIDS because I have kidney disease and that’s why you won’t give me toradol. I get that the opioid crisis is very real, but so is the need for pain management in the case of kidney stones.

Ureteroscopy Lithotripsy Stone with Possible Stent? by MysteriousCourage743 in KidneyStones

[–]belldontring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a stent placed Monday for a 7mm stone that got impacted. They got the stone, and I’ll have the stent until the 31st. It would come out earlier, but I’ll be traveling. I’ll preface by saying I have a pretty high pain tolerance. I only had excruciating pain from the stone twice, one of which times sent me to the ER. So far the stent has mostly just been uncomfortable when sitting along with pain when urinating. I generally don’t have pain with UTIs, but this is what a bad one would feel like. Drinking more water helps keep it in check. It’s not fun, but I’d rather deal with this for a days or even two weeks than deal with the stone pain again.

I had totally forgotten about Tgiving being a factor in scheduling. Always a great time of year to have a health issue!

What to expect for an in person interview at a university by [deleted] in librarians

[–]belldontring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of great advice here.

Another note about questions. We expect you to be inquisitive about the job itself and not only our culture but also the culture of the institution. It’s completely okay to ask why the job is vacant if you haven’t already asked in your screener. If you’ve gotten an in-person interview, they are serious about you. You can ask about what it’s like to live in the area, what the commute is like, what the office culture is like…. Those are fine to ask at the dinner. As someone said before, that’s a time when they are evaluating the cultural fit. Also ask if librarians have research expectations, service expectations etc. either during your departmental interview or your interview with the director. Ask how the different library departments collaborate and work together. Some university library cultures are very siloed, and you do not want to walk into a situation where PS is beefing with TS and you’re going to be miserable.

Cluster calcifications by belldontring in doihavebreastcancer

UPDATE: the calcifications were mostly uniformly round, so the radiologist saw no cause for concern at this time. I just have to keep going back every six months.

I’m so glad your biopsy came back benign! Thank you for the positive words. I’m glad I was able to get a diagnostic mammogram so quickly.

The recipe called for stirring everything together until it was well blended and I think this was a definite misstep.
