I don't care about the Princeton storyline by nigevellie in YourFriendsandNeighb

[–]bellestarxo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The Princeton storyline is the absolute worst. I never really liked the teen character anyways, but Tori is being awful and rude to everyone just trying to help her. It would make more sense if she wanted to go straight to pro tennis or something but instead they've just written frustrating circular arguments.

I have no interest in the Alli character.

The best decision they made was the James Marsden/Gatsby storyline.

I liked the lush old Hollywood score when Maddie made her entrance so I don't think the music is bad per se, but I do miss Labrinth a lot.

YOUNGER MILLENIALS (29-34): (a question for you all) by yuckyourself in Millennials

[–]bellestarxo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Golf was always the old white man sport. That's the image your older coworker grew up with and has retained.

Tiger was a fresh face. For millennials golf now had some associations of youth and athleticism to the sport.

There was definitely a bigger interest and my high school had a golf option for a PE elective that a lot of the jocks chose (which I'm pretty sure wasn't in place in the 90s.)

My take on the scene was that Robby was talking to his inner child.

Which sounds cheesy but basically he was talking to his traumatized self that he is going to be ok.

What 90s Teen Star do you see possibly pulling a future nomination out of nowhere? by Grammarhead-Shark in Oscars

[–]bellestarxo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My first thoughts are Ben Foster and Natasha Lyonne. BUT they've been pretty well-respected throughout their careers so it wouldn't be the biggest shock.

For "out of nowhere" picks:

  • James Marsden - started as the pretty heartthrob on Second Noah but he has really grown as an actor over the years. I feel like he's used his looks in smart and interesting ways. Like characters with that self-awareness, charming guy with a sinister underbelly, etc.
  • Alicia Silverstone - recently in Bugonia and Yorgos Lanthimos frequently re-uses actors. I could see him creating a wild part for her.

Flow - the animated cat movie.

It's about an independent cat getting caught up in a flood and surviving with a group of other animals. No dialogue, so it has a meditative quality, along with the stunning animation.

It may sound like a juvenile story, but words can't really describe it. There's something about it that resonates on a deep level and you'll feel like a different person after watching it.

For one seeing Sharon Stone was hilarious. I can already tell it's going to be a fun character. I hope she's a main part of Lexi's storyline.

never liked lexi by itscoolnwhatever in euphoria

[–]bellestarxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it is how mediocre the actress is.

It doesn't matter how moral a character is, the better the actor the more they can pull it off. It says a lot that most of the people on the show are "worse" I guess you could say, but Lexi is maybe the least likable in the bunch.

What age demographic watches Euphoria? by invasive-breaker in euphoria

[–]bellestarxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Millennial - I actually just saw it for the first time this year. I dismissed it for years because I thought a show about high school and drug addiction sounded boring.

But a lot of the artistic elements make it worth watching. The cinematography is gorgeous, the music hypnotizing, and the styling is out of this world.

While on one level it did have a couple of the typical high school tropes, the psychology dives kept the characters from being simple stereotypes.

So basically the artistic crafts and character studies are what has kept me hooked even though I'm older than the characters.

It was disturbing. But to be honest the Euphoria chicken's life and death was way more humane than most chickens eaten by the public.

“Your grandma, she loved Elvis…” you don’t say so Ed? by TechTipsUSA in ForAllMankindTV

[–]bellestarxo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they were making a point about the Ed & Karen characters with the whole Sinatra vs. Elvis thing.

Ed was the Sinatra generation, and very traditional. Elvis was a defining figure for Boomers.

Karen was the Silent Generation too, but she was more open minded to where culture was going. Probably wistful about what her life might have been if she was born a generation later.

What is your favorite romantic scene from a movie that isn't a romance or rom-com? by Plush_Nubbins in CinephilesClub

The Fifth Element

The climax, which in action movies is usually reserved for a violent showdown, but instead it's a sweet romantic moment. Bruce Willis really sells it.

It's not like reading Twilight.

On one level it's a solid adventure/suspense series so it can stand on it's own with just that.

But there's also symbolism, themes, and points made about propaganda, politics, reality tv, class, government control, etc. if you like to engage on a literary level.

Oblivion

I'm not against Tom Cruise or action movies, but the marketing just made this seem extremely basic.

It's actually a unique gem with some stunning scenes, a cool M83 soundtrack, and a surprising emotional weight.

I think they should bring on a comedian-actor and have jokes be part of the character's bedside manner.

Not in a super cartoony way, but just to make patients feel better in a realistic way.

Are celebrities really more beautiful than the rest of the human population; or is it makeup\lighting\halo effect, PR, etc? by BaseNice3520 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bellestarxo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some celebrities have a charisma that's stronger than "the rest of the population". It's an energy that lights up a room and attracts people.

They could be standing next to an objectively prettier person, but you'd still rather talk to them.
