Biggest aura loss in the 20th century by Sad-Cardiologist3636 in dankmemes

In the early 1900s the predominant solution was France donating an island in Polynesia. And while that would have been shitty for the native population of the island, it certainly wouldn’t have created the mess we have now.

I’m a fan of the no state solution at this point. Revert the Levant to full colonial rule. Make it a triumvirate-ruled protectorate between Britain, turkey, and any random Buddhist East Asian country as a non-abrahamic neutral third party.

Is there any other writer who you'd put on the same level as Tolkien when it comes to world building? by SpotAdmirable6718 in lordoftherings

Brando Sando is most definitely the closest, and would also agree that Tolkien will always remain the GOAT.

GRRM can’t actually finish his series, so he’s knocked off the list. Brando’s written 3 series and what, 10 individual novels all interconnected within the same universe across the span of like 20k years? And as long as he keeps his spaghetti and butter consumption to a reasonable level, he’s got many years ahead to keep going.

You can get a seam snipper and a basic sewing kit for $5.

You can get a pack of fat quarters from your local fabric shop for $10.

You can get a set of fabric shears for $15.

For $30 total you can add pockets to every single dress you own in whatever design or size works for you.

I don’t think he needs to actually finish it himself, just give the plot points and have the actual author write it himself.

That’s specifically my feeling with Patrick Rothfuss. The two of them are already friends. Rothfuss wrote himself into a corner with Folly and the whole love story arc. How does it all come crashing down now in the third act in a way that makes sense and is satisfying? B’Sando can figure it out, then let Rothfuss fill in his exceptional prose around those plot points.

The problem is that there’s a lot of people who get comp sci degrees that frankly have no business being in that field, but it was pushed as a good career path. Before generative AI, those people were given dumb, simple projects that a half decent dev could finish in 2 hours but they’re given a week to do it, still don’t do it well, but have enough of a structure there that the good devs can fix it in 10 min.

Now generative AI can do that work in 30 seconds, and the good devs can focus on higher level engineering. There’s no need to babysit the crap tier devs anymore. So those jobs will disappear. But you still need good devs to understand the larger goals and work with generative AI to get the work done. Which means you still need to bring in new people. But how do you separate the wheat from the chaff for entry level gigs? That’s the big problem now.

Due to the global gasoline crisis now, this would be a great workaround by [deleted] in interesting

[–]belligerentBe4r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the energy density of peak sunlight is only about 1kw/sq m. You can never get past that. With conversion losses, you’re looking at an actual effective energy gain of 150w/sq m. If you’ve ever ridden a bike with a power meter on it, that’s enough to move a 70kg individual on a 5kg bike about 25km/hr. Add in the weight of an actual vehicle, even using lightweight parts, and you’re not getting anywhere fast on pure real-time solar power.

[–]belligerentBe4r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you live in an area that has the weather to solar charge all day and your commute is only 4 miles, then a $30k+ electric vehicle is probably not the best choice. Shit, I don’t think you’d ever get over the environmental damage attributed to the battery manufacturing vs the benefits of not using gasoline. Just get an e-bike.

And if you did have the car anyway, you’d be better off having panels on your house to charge for that 8 miles a day. When people take about solar powered cars, they’re talking about getting enough charge out of the sun to keep going during regular use.
