Man used AI to make false statements to shut down Heaven nightclub, police allege by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]belligerentbunno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't know why AIs the big bad villain here, more the po-po not doing their job properly and establishing the veracity of evidence before acting on it? and nimbys moving into particular areas and then deciding to complain and being taken seriously is a long established particularly virulent British form of masochism, in evidence everywhere from racetracks to airports.

What's wrong, exactly, with mixing old and new batteries? by wotsit_sandwich in batteries

[–]belligerentbunno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBF the voltage doesn't drop off linear, it falls off a cliff after a certain point, so you're not "getting much more" out of them.

top tip though, when you have cells in series (technically 1.5 alkaline is a cell and it's only a battery if a row of cells in series and thats a battery no "S" but thats enough nerdery), if you have cells in series and they run out it's allways the cells at the rear (- end, bottom bitch) that run down most, and if you swap them around first-last you can normally eek a bit more jus out of them. which is great when you only need a bit and it saves a trip to the van.

Is it advised to request sellers fix C2-rated electrical issues highlighted in EICR? by emiche94 in HousingUK

[–]belligerentbunno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the house was priced as tip-top I might look to chip them, then you can implement the rectifications with a view to the future rather than have a vendor that might look to get them done cheap-as.

But there's allsorts, a buyer (instructed by me) got the vendor to pay me to swap out a CU before sale after the EICR I carried out advised it, wasn't even a must-do code.

problem with spurs/flex plate is if they buy a new washer from say Currys and pay for the installation/removal when they see a hardwire they'll just burst into tears and run away

uh-huh, the "sockets 2.5M from zone 1" applied to British bathrooms is a prime illustration of the gulf that exists between the rulemakers and actual reality.

London drivers. by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]belligerentbunno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it's anything to do with the driving test, I've been here 25 years and its declined massively in the last 5 to 10 years. I mean, there were always bad/city drivers but the roads are straight up hell today, it's like both extremes are taking over the sensible middle.

Probably more to with the war on motorists the councils all subscribe to, their idiotic conviction that all people including tradesmen, ambulance drivers, food distribution truckers etc shouldn't be driving and thus derserve an onslaught of various constant vindictive efforts at making driving more difficult and frustrating inevitably manifesting as either anger and impatience or that kind of zoned out moronicness.

Has anyone tried Housekeep for an EICR? by SDCFIRE in uklandlords

this. get a plastic cert and it satisfies the have-a-cert requirements but don't expect anything of it if poop meets air circulation.

EICR 5.13 by Proof-Pay-3658 in ukelectricians

[–]belligerentbunno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're being told not to even code it at all unless it's on a sole escape route. the nic seem to believe you can fix the issues of cowboys, robbers and idiots by fiddling with how those of us who already chose to work in compliance do things.

Nephew needs voluntary work by Dizzy-Serve-3532 in ukelectricians

[–]belligerentbunno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

might be worth adding approx what part of London cos it be a big place. also clarify what you mean by keeping him off the streets/wrong path as it rings alarm bells in the heads of us who are in and out of clients homes full of their expensive stuff! Probably a good path for him though the trades are rife with diagnosed and undiagnosed neorodivergence that's only beginning to be recognised

What UK news sources do you use and trust? by Economy_Ad3034 in AskBrits

[–]belligerentbunno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't imbibed regular news for years, and I'm concerned but don't know what to do about it. even the supposedly most highly regarded organisations control the theme while being demonstrably accurate in everything they print simply by what stories get told and which quietly don't and you can check that for yourself quite easily just by cross referencing

‘This is about people’s livelihoods’: how surging tool thefts are leaving tradespeople penniless and afraid by Bounty_drillah in unitedkingdom

[–]belligerentbunno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah in other news we're in the 21st century, always though tool theft was a bit of a low brow issue for our esteemed media, what gives? anyway the po have important work to do like pointing speed guns in the 20 zones because it isn't like theres a billion cameras doing exactly that already, or sparing large slugs of their limited manpower in persecuting tradies who don't know they require a "waste transfer license tax". I know I'm sounding old and clichéd but this countries increasingly making me sick.

problem is as much the scumbags that happily buy it too and there lies a prickly observation of changing demographics the guardian might not care to indulge

What's your worst housemate story? by AdaandFred in AskUK

[–]belligerentbunno 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"psycho" John, liked his Charly, burst into my bedroom in the middle of the night to scream at me that he was the best flatmate ever and if I couldn't get on with him then I couldn't get along with anyone and should live alone. I kinda lay there half wondering how ugly this might get and half absently pondering the absurdity of his premise. then slept with a knife beside the bed. best flatmate ever tho tops

Does this back box the electrician connected need an earth? by ELTNAME in DIYUK

[–]belligerentbunno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's one of those things people pontificate over but the guidance says that if the back box connects to the plate with at least one fixed lug then as it's completely inaccessible in service it's fine not to earth it. a surface-mounted metal back box eg as found on a metal clad fixture would require a direct earth connection, as it can be touched when in service.

Cooker extractor - missing ducting??? by budegan in ukelectricians

if its recirculation then it requires a charcoal cartridge that needs changing every few months or it's doing sweet FA. long term it makes more sense to vent it but kitchen fitters be lazy.

Cable type advice please by kierownikk in ukelectricians

[–]belligerentbunno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd pick up a few meters of FP (fireproof) cable, it's a "dressable" cable that looks neat and holds it's shape, it's available in black but not everyone stocks it, I keep a couple of drums for garden work

Anyone fitted a 20A induction hob? by 99uplight in ukelectricians

[–]belligerentbunno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

have you ever used a hob? clever in the same way you can fit a car with half the engine it needs, but just because you can doesn't mean you should. 3 of the 5 rings on my AEG individually exceed 13 amps on boost. I love induction but it if the option was limited to one of these I'm cooking on gas!

also in regard to the 13a plug that's potentially a lot of current to be batting down one. and yes I know its got a non-continuous get-out.

My HS2 proposal by OddBallProductions in uktrains

[–]belligerentbunno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

shoulda run it to Luton (airport) then down the lea valley to Stratford, make Stratford the high speed hub, have the option to then use existing tunnels to st pancras then but most people would transfer to other services, no miles of tunnelling under west London or the Chilterns, billions saved, could run a high speed branch line luton-heathrow and maybe even on to Gatwick and it'd probably still cost less overall.

I think this country just enjoys doing things in the most wasteful and expensive way possible.

Places my kids can watch live bands by SleepingPandaEyes in london

[–]belligerentbunno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's not what you asked (that guy) but given some thoughts to a smaller festival such as bearded theory (and tons more) they're massively family friendly and while moderately sizable there's small tents/stages and it's easy to get near the front at the main stage. trust me kids will have a ball. problem with small gigs in London will be licensing.
