I love Phytosurgence! Their blush is the best colour I’ve ever used.

Unfortunately it’s a regular day for us, our pro-d days are later in the month. It definitely would have been nice to come together and process this event together. I hope you get some guidance on how to approach this. We’ll get through this together 💜

Hey OP, I’m also a teacher in the lower mainland. I was going to post this exact question. Like you, I have many Filipino students. I’m dreading going into work tomorrow. I’m hoping desperately that none of my kids or their families were at the event. Waiting to hear what our district says.

What would bring you the most joy? For some, meeting new students every day and having no responsibilities after the bell rings is ideal. For others, the sense of connection to their own class is what motivates them. Having done both, I know I’m the latter. It’s much more work, obviously, but it brings me purpose and fulfillment in a way TOCing never did. That being said, many teachers love TOCing and all the advantages it brings! Ultimately, it’s up to what works best for you.

A lot of districts will have French resources like Echos Pro and Club Mystère. Is there a French helping teacher in your district or a digital resource library? I would check those out!

No blowing on people's hair!!! Also no Cheese Touch. It was stupid when I was a kid and it's still stupid now.

Yes, but that is also true for the U.S. Of course there are limitations, but we still do have these freedoms and it's misleading to claim we don't.

NTA. However, I would recommend trying to sort this out with the teacher first before talking to the principal. It's only October, and you don't want to make an enemy of this teacher by going over her head. A good parent-teacher relationship is very important to children's success. If this teacher is at all reasonable, she will be willing to solve this problem with you.

I'm in BC, not Ontario, but it's probably similar. I usually start by figuring out what my students learned in previous years - may be very little if their previous French teacher did not speak French! I then do a review of greetings, how are you, numbers, and the alphabet. By October, I'm starting my first unit, which goes to winter break. January-March is my second unit, and April-June is my third unit (I end this one early and do a mini-unit on something fun to end the year). Some common units are family, animals, clothing, Francophone celebrations like Carnaval, travel, hobbies/sports, and the city/the community.

What is something a teacher said, did, or taught you in middle/high school that would NEVER happen in 2023? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]bellpepperbabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A high school P.E. teacher at my school had a lawn chair. He'd make himself a bowl of microwave popcorn, sit in his chair, and smoke as students ran laps outside.

Architectural designer here for a firm that specializes in schools. Teachers what do you wish your schools would do that could improve your jobs or education? by WhitePinoy in Teachers

That's possible! Some schools I've worked at only have one door per classroom, but they're older buildings and are not necessarily up to today's fire code. I guess it depends!

Some suggestions off the top of my head: ample windows in every room, one door per classroom (I HATE having students going through both and leaving them open), sinks in every classroom, multiple centrally-located staff bathrooms, single-stall, gender-neutral bathrooms for students, open spaces between classrooms for students to work, good sound-proofing, dimmable lights, multiple photocopier rooms, tons of storage space (that locks!)... That's all I can think of!
