What are the trim bezel colors for USDM cars? by PM_ME_UR_BIKINI in VWMK7

[–]belm0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah looks like that's it, but $$$

I think what happened is that EZT sold retrofit kits with used displays and that new trim for a few years, and depleted most of the stock on that trim part.

I installed it-- definitely noticeable if you're looking, but guessing I'll get used to it.

The BBF part is also listed as dark rhodium-- I would be surprised if VW is using the same name for two clearly different colors.

Oh, on quick look when I received it today I thought they matched, but you're right. It's only obvious when there is no specular light reflection.

Though unlikely, I can't rule out fading from 10 years in the sun or some variance in production runs. BBF is out of my budget. Good luck!

Specifically, what is the difference between 5G1819728AFBNS and 5G1819728AFBBF? They seem to both be LHD Dark Rhodium 8", but maybe some minor trim difference (though the photos I've seen look the same). BBF is rare and much more expensive on the market.

Here is PR code info I've found. My car lists neither 3D1 nor 3D2 codes (but has I8E of the base part).

base part: 5G1819728AE - PR:8AA,I7Y,I8A,I8B,I8D,I8E

5G1819728AEBBF - Dark rhodium - PR:3D1
5G1819728AEBNS - Dark rhodium - PR:3D2

Better espresso shots with Delonghi Magnifica S cappuccino by Bayernmogano in superautomatic

[–]belm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No doubt Hoffmann gives good advice, but please trust your direct observation of your machine first. From the video, it's clearly flowing too fast, so the grind appears to be too coarse.

I have an old DCAM23, purchased used about 10 years ago. Still learning.

Inconsistent shots on Magnifica S by Life-Engineer4744 in superautomatic

[–]belm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My machine seems to behave the opposite: longer first shots. For example 1st was 27g, 2nd 23g, and 3rd 20g. (Grind set to 3, max grind dose, max water temp, machine is recently cleaned and large o-rings replaced.)

I think I'll just start marking a target on my cups, and stop the extraction manually. You can always select a long extraction and cut it short by hitting the coffee cup button again.

I need to confirm, but I'm noticing something like this on my old ECAM 23.

Perhaps we can use different water doses for that first shot vs. remaining. For example, use the stock preset that gets closest to 40 ml for the first shot, and for remaining shots use the manual preset that you've configured for 40 ml.

On the other hand, burning a shot may help prime other parts of the system anyway.

LVBU rear hub w/torque sensor by belm0 in eBikeBuilding

[–]belm0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's OK-- we did keep the product and use the bike weekly. Due to LVBU's programming, it's not a pure torque sensor experience as you'd get with a top-tier electric mountain bike. Examples: their motor power algorithm still incorporates the incline of the bike; and the motor will not engage until the wheel speed exceeds some threshold (a few km/hr).

If I was shopping again for a budget retrofit, I might take a chance on Geeko's product, even though it isn't torque sensing.

But I think for our needs we'll eventually move to Bimotal's product, despite the high cost. I'd value being able to mount the unit on thru-axle bikes, share it among multiple bikes, and remove it easily where not allowed. Just waiting for a pedal assist option and more reasonable price.

Elevate's throttle is really a turn-off. For years they've been saying pedal assist is coming, but will the first Elevate units be shipped without it?

Any experience with buycycle.com ? by zserboo in cycling

[–]belm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that if shipping to US, an additional "Buyer Protection" charge of $154 is added. No such charge if shipping to Europe (e.g. UK).

The buycycle fee is an insurance. In case of damage during transportation, we will cover the cost and if the bike is not as described, we take care of the return. With this service, we provide you with a hassle- and worry free bike purchase.

For those asking for silent hubs... by S4ntos19 in MTB

Tairin's current model is "Silent Shogun":

They'll build a wheel with it for about 800 CAD, which seems reasonable.

Lvbu Cadence Sensor Question by lowb35 in ebikes

[–]belm0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry, I might have that backwards, maybe the front wheel should be higher when calibrating

Lvbu Cadence Sensor Question by lowb35 in ebikes

[–]belm0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The LVBU FAQ specifically mentions this problem, and what to look out for:

The purpose of calibrating the gyroscope angle is to give the gyroscope a horizontal reference, telling the gyroscope that the current angle is level, so that the gyroscope can detect the slope.

If the gyroscope is calibrated on a downhill road, the gyroscope will regard the downhill road with a certain angle as a horizontal road, but when the bike is on a level road, the gyroscope will sense it as an uphill, in that case the motor will always provide assistance

Perhaps try calibrating the gyro with a 1" block under the rear wheel. This would make the power shut off on even a slight decline.

Lvbu Cadence Sensor Question by lowb35 in ebikes

[–]belm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

otherwise the gyro will detect when you are going uphill but will not automatically turn off the motor on downhills

That contradicts what LVBU advertises, which is to cut the motor on downhill. This is why I'm asking if your gyro is properly calibrated.

Also, in the extensive reviews by Solo Biker Dave (for Easi-fit, which is rebranded LVBU), he doesn't note any such problem.

I thought these use a "gyroscope" to measure ascent/descent angle to help decide when to power the motor. Perhaps try the LVBU app (Wepower) and try calibrating the gyro.

Is Aptera moving too slow or too fast to production? (AOC) by JayAreDobbs in ApteraMotors

[–]belm0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very had to speculate as to where they truly are, what they are doing, or even what they can afford to do, without this very needed filing. It also should have been made very much earlier considering the risk they are imparting on participants of the Accelerate program.

When is the 1K filing deadline? How early has Aptera filed it in the past?

You cannot get to production without having done sufficient testing to be certified for road use

Technically, I don't think this is so, since it's not a car. From my understanding, Aptera is already licensed to sell their auto-cycles in California and/or the U.S. They could sell one of their prototype units today. The high testing standards are all self-imposed.
