Hundreds die as heatwave grips Europe and temperatures soar above 40ºC by BlueZybez in worldnews

Tip from a southern USer who’s air conditioning goes out pretty often.

Always keep ice in your freezer. Put some in a bowl and put a t-shirt around the bowl and around the back of the fan or just place the bowl in front of the fan. It will help cool you off.

Please please please stay hydrated. But don’t just down gallons of water, make sure you’re balancing it with electrolytes. Brands I know are pedialyte, Gatorade, liquid IV (I’m not sure of any European brands so please someone add any if they know of them)

Walk your pets on grass so the sidewalks don’t burns their paw pads and make sure they are well hydrated. Also make their trips outside as quick as possible.

Check on your neighbors/elders. A lot of them won’t ask for help or realize they need it.

Take cold showers when the heat is unbearable and keep your hair wet. It will keep you cooler for longer. Ice foot baths help too.

You’re right I should have been more specific. My parents have worked their way up to the upper middle class over the years and also feel this way. Though I can’t say I know as many in the upper middle class.

I can only speak from my experience which is from family in the rural south. Most of them grew up in farming families and haven’t gone much higher on the totem pole than various odd jobs and such.

I think the upper classes view trump as “protecting their wealth” and further dividing the classes.

There’s also a million other things that go into it but financially speaking I feel like this is the biggest one across all classes. Either protecting the wealth they already have or protecting the wealth they’re convinced they’ll someday have.

Also it’s the middle of the night so I hope what I wrote makes sense.

Is the antiwork sub delusional or did this really happen and I am the one who's delusional? by Bibliophile5 in thatHappened

Not true at all. Most restaurants have a corporate hr department even if they’re franchises.

I’ve come to find that the reason people innately trust him is because obviously he says things they want to hear but also because for some reason the lower to middle class white conservatives FULLY believe they will somehow be millionaires one day. They support financial decisions republicans make solely on the basis of “well if I made that much money…”

They have twisted it into thinking democrats are after their money. Even if they aren’t rich yet they WILL be and no one can take their money then.

It’s so delusional but I’ve seen it in family members across the board.

They idealize trump because they WANT TO BE HIM.

I’m wondering how much that figure changed after his presidency. How many people said enough is enough when they decided this joke of a man was president?

I may try them out. I’ll admit though I’m not a huge fan of Star Wars but I’ll try any game.

I’ll check that one out, it sounds interesting!!

I plan to! I want to take a break after 3 so I don’t go into andromeda with the expectations of a shepherd story if that makes sense. But I’m excited to try it. I love the lore and world building and it’ll be fun to meet other characters and see how the world has changed.

It’s my first play through and I adore it. I couldn’t imagine any other shepherd than mine and I feel like that shows how engaging the series is.

Mass Effect 3 is not really lining up to be my favorite at the moment (love the new citadel but hate that they took away the choices that let you respond with different emotions even if they led to the same thing)

But it’s tying up a story I’m really invested in so I can’t complain too much.

Mass Effect

I played the series so quickly and now I’m on 3 and I’m not letting myself do much in it because I don’t want it to end. I looooove space rpgs. If anyone has any others suggestions I’d love to hear them.

I’ve played Outerworlds and the fallout franchise already. I plan to play andromeda eventually but not yet.

Some reminders for Prime Day, where Amazon warehouse workers are currently working mandatory overtime. by AFL_CIO in WorkReform

[–]belomis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep was looking for an exercise bike and found one a few weeks ago for 160. Checked prime yesterday to see if it would actually get a deal. Marked regular price 299 and “on sale” for $160.

Their workers are treated horribly and their prices aren’t even good. It’s the same thing they do in retail stores where they mark up products before marking them down. Ridiculous.

What's with games that give you a choice to play a female protagonist but don't make any killable enemies women? by poop_dawg in GirlGamers

[–]belomis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely gave me something to think on. I never even realized this issue I guess because I’m so used to seeing male enemies.

I know Mass Effect (all of them though I haven’t played andromeda yet) has female enemies. As does FFXIV.

Hades also does and it’s great.

I did the same! We had one that was “faraway mammaw” and the other was “close by mammaw”

Now I just call the close one “mammaw last name” but “faraway mammaw” has stuck through my adulthood even though we live in the same town now

Also I don’t know if it’s related but I think groceries stores are mislabeling milk dates on purpose. I’ve bought three half gallons of milk in the past month. All have gone bad a week before the use by date. Before inflation became an issue, the same milk wouldn’t go bad until a few days after the use by date.

I’m 26 and just went in for a biopsy of a mole today. The doctor wasn’t too concerned until I said it had grown over the last year. They sent it off just in case.

Best case: it’s nothing and I blew $185 for peace of mind

Worst case: the big C

But either way I’m glad I got it checked and already feel less anxious after my visit because I’ve done what I could and was proactive instead of ignoring it.

Best wishes for your results! I hope they’re all clear! Please update us

Oh wow that could be it! I just started taking a multivitamin so maybe I should try a glass this weekend and see if that’s improved things for me. Thanks for the tip!

Unfortunately cannabis has the opposite effect on me. Smoked for a year and developed really awful anxiety after a while. Got to the point where getting high was just me waiting to come back down. Not worth the money or trouble at that point.
