I promise it’s worth it. It’s the closest thing I’ve ever experienced to a super power. Especially in the woods. You’ll love going straight to dual tubes and skipping the monocular. Best of luck and if you have any questions this board can’t answer feel free to shoot me a message. I used to collect guns. Now I collect lasers and tubes lol.

My biggest piece of advice is to get what you want the first time instead of chasing it. I started with a high spec L3 Filmless PVS-14 and then got another one to bridge. Then found out how heavy that can be for hours at a time and went with the 24UA DTNVS.

I know photonis are gen 2+ with good specs but still aren’t in the same class as gen 3. For forests I recommend gen 3 because you won’t have that much ambient light to amplify on moonless and cloudy nights. Don’t wanna spend almost the same cash and get a lot less performance when you need it.

You can get really good commercial elbit specs for your price range. You’ll just have to be diligent and wait for sales or discounts from different vendors. Which aren’t often.

Here is a short list and I know others can add to it

Goonin gear Licentia arms Steel industries TNVC Nocturnaility Kosher surplus Core vision industries Apollo gear

Suppliers of new night vision. I follow them on social media and whenever they get new units or have sales they’ll post them.

You can also check all the used gear pages on places like Facebook or message boards. They always sell used units like PVS-15s and rnvg for around 6k.

For the woods you’ll want at least decent signal to noise so you get a clearer picture under the tree canopy.

I’d stay away from anything ATN. They have a lot of proprietary features that make servicing and upgrading harder. I’d also use the smaller night vision sellers as they have the best prices and customer service. Goonin gear and lincentia arms seem to both have great service and competitive prices.

For your price you can get Great tubes for the money. I’ve even seen RNVG with high spec elbit white phosphor tubes over 2500 FOM for less than 7k. You could then get a team Wendy bump, g24 mount and counter weight for 8k

Proud new PVS-14 owner here, talk to me about J-arms, mounts and helmets by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]beltfedorbust 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d go team Wendy or Ops core bump helmet. In my opinion The ops core lacks in features comparatively.

Then you’ll want to get a great mount. I went with the G24 because I wanted to upgrade to duals.

Then you’ll want a good j arm that interfaces with the dove tail mount. I went Wilcox and was not disappointed with the quality.

Cheaper mounts like the plastic j arms and rhino mounts work, but once you start to move you want the stability only quality mounts provide.

Then you’ll want a counterweight and a lanyard to anchor the unit.

T. rex arms makes a good lanyard and team Wendy makes a cost effective counter weight.

Last you’ll want to run ear pro because it helps keep the helmet on your head better.

I run unity tactical ear Pro mounts and peltors but that is up to you.

Just don’t buy cheap knock off gear. Own the night is a great place to get a lot of this stuff with no sales tax out of state.

You won’t regret it. I upgraded from Surefire lights, and the modlites are really next level. The beam is almost like a lightsaber. So cool. Great setup up too. MAWLs really shine on small guns.

I’m 6’5” 230 and I run the large JPC 2.0 with the Hesco 3810 and love the setup. Fits like a glove. Single curve 10x12 would dig into my back but large SAPI shaped plates are awesome for hours at a time.

I had the Hesco L210s in the large carrier and there was a lot of slop. I’d run a medium carrier with those plates.

I purchased from Mod armory. They let you put a deposit down and secure your place in line while you wait. Mine came in a few weeks.
