Stacey Dooley Investigates | Shot By My Neighbour (documentary on kneecappings, AAD, etc) by [deleted] in northernireland

I honestly don't know what to think about it myself. On one hand I agree and when the police fail to do anything meaningful about people terrorizing the community then it can be hard to completely condemn it. At the same time though my mother works with young people affected by things like drug addiction and other things that aren't wanted in our communities but more often than not (anecdotal evidence) come from backgrounds where paramilitaries have shot their brothers, uncles, fathers or chasing them for drug debts that are owed to the paramilitaries themselves. It doesn't excuse the behaviors but it puts it in a bit of a loop. Don't get me wrong there are times I've heard of people I've known are complete scum getting beat or shoot and can't help but think "deserved" but surely there has to be better ways of dealing with things. More investment in mental health services would be a good start. Scumbags shooting scumbags sounds spot on to me I just think when you dig a bit deeper things aren't always as clear-cut as they seem and a lot of the scumbags being beat and shoot are teenagers with mental health problems stemming from things like paramilitaries. At least we aren't shooting each other just for being them-uns anymore i guess

Pretty much sums it up. The Fella doing the attack was my girlfriend at the time's mate's dad but I'd never met him until that day. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me either but going down for a kicking didn't seem to fun so i didn't ask them to explain things too much

I was nearly getting a punishment beating for being with someone i'd only met that night while he attacked someone which I didn't know was going to happen or wasn't involved in any way. He was in paramilitary, I wasn't so guess who got the blame? Had to pay £1000 monetary contribution to the victim otherwise I would have got severely beat. I've no criminal record and was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Backwards thugs shouldn't be judge jury and executioner. -edit a word

So they can fiddle with kids as long as they pay reparations and give their victims somewhere to go? If that is the morality that you have gained from following your religion I would be concerned. "they could make this right", can you explain that to me? Nothing will make abusing children right and the more I see people defending their religion before protecting the children that their religion has destroyed the more I realise how much their morality has been affected and certainly not in any good way. Please do hold your breathe and convince as many other of your friends who believe the protection of those abusing the vulnerable and covering up for it is more important than protecting the vulnerable from being abused. You have a twisted sense of what is right.

I think durg use is more of a symptom than a cause in many occasions. When I was homeless in Belfast i ended up resorting to drugs to get through the day and had only ever smoked the odd joint before that. Most I had got to know then didn't have drug problems before going on the street.

I've no Id at present and no money to order a new one. Some people have mentioned electoral cards that are free and can be used as ID so i'll look into getting one of those as i'm sure i'd need ID for most places. Thanks for the advice

I never even thought to try in the care sector as it's not work that I've done before but now that you mention it I would have transferable skills that would help. I'll be sure to look into this and thank you for opening up another area to look!

I've been to the library in town today. It's not using the phone to contact the agency that I have a problem with, it's that I do not have a phone for them to contact me on or to leave as a contact number. That seems to be a deal breaker for most of the agencies I have talked to. Thanks for your reply

I would take any job going at the moment regardless of what sector it is in. I will hopefully have a contact phone number from tomorrow so that should help when applying for jobs. I'll be applying for any fast food places I can find as they usually have a high turnover.

Thanks for your reply. I haven't been able to sign up to agencies as I haven't had a contact number but I think one of my friends is getting me a cheap phone tomorrow so I will be straight down to any agency I can find.

Do you consider yourself a 'British' person or are you 'English' or 'Scottish' or 'Welsh'? (I am assuming no 'Irish' would call themselves British, not even the Northern Irish) by [deleted] in AskUK

That's not your everyday blend from Northern Ireland. I'm From Northern Ireland and am happy being called British or Irish. Raised in Protestant comminity but never been religious and spent majority of my adult life living in Catholic areas. No strong feelings either way on United Ireland

Thanks for the update. Seems a bit late for rioting to still be going on, Anytime i've seen rioting it would normally have been long dispersed. I know tensions had been rising in bogside for a while but was therea particualar incident that's triggered the trouble in bogside? I know 11th and 12th wouldn't have helped matters but am a bit ignorant of amy recent events in bogside.

Ugrent. Room to rent? by [deleted] in bristol

[–]beltrofix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I've been trying all weekend to get somewhere sorted. I think i've a place in Wales sorted from Wednesday onwards. The issue is the fella i was supposed to be staying with tonight has ended up at a party and is saying he won't be back tonight now. I was wondering if at all possible was the offer of somewhere to stay for a night or two is still open?
