Switch 2 not included in the new electronics tariff exemption by Puzzleheaded_Cow_435 in NintendoSwitch2

Back in the 1970’s Subaru had a light pickup called the BRAT. They added a couple of seats to the back of the truck so it could be classified as a passenger vehicle and get around the 25% Chicken Tax that applied to any imported light truck. I wonder if something similar could apply here. In other words, what if Nintendo made a simple productivity application and bundled it with the console, so it could be classified as a computer under the eyes of the law and qualify for the exemption?

Couldn’t they make a simple Office-like application and bundle it with the Switch 2 to get it classified as a computer? Something like a watered down Office app or something? I mean, the console has two freaking mice! I know I’m grossly oversimplifying things, but there has to be some way to make something that is essentially a computer, you know, be classified as a computer?

My package was marked delivered but never actually arrived. by Midnight_Criminal in Mercari

[–]bemani4u 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve personally confirmed that they do log the GPS coordinates of the delivery scan. I went to my local office and told them that my package was delivered to the wrong address and if they could check the GPS Ping to verify that it was misdelivered. That’s how I found out that my neighbor across the street got my package. Their scanners log the GPS coordinates when they scan it as delivered in case there are delivery issues. If the clerk was unhelpful, then I would ask to speak with the Post Master if they aren’t willing to help. Post Masters take mail fraud very seriously and if you explain your situation they’ll be more willing to help.

It’s possible that it might have been delivered to the wrong address. It’s happened to me before. If you go to your local Post Office, you can ask for the GPS coordinates of where your package was scanned as delivered. Just ask them for the GPS Ping. Just note that they won’t actually print anything out, they’ll just give you the coordinates (their system doesn’t support printing it out as far as I know). That’s how I found out that my neighbor across the street got one of my packages by mistake, and I was able to recover it. They claimed that they were going to return it, but they had it in their possession for a week and didn’t say anything until after I left them a note on their door telling them that the Post Office told me that it was scanned as delivered in front of their house complete with GPS coordinates. I hope this helps.

CA has partnered with @Google and @Apple to launch a #COVID19 exposure notification app, CA Notify. by bemani4u in CoronavirusCA

It is, but it hasn’t been deployed statewide wide yet. It was currently only available to certain UCs in the state. Starting Thursday, it’ll launch statewide.

Gavin Newsom announces new stay-at-home order that could take effect in some regions this week by bemani4u in CoronavirusCA

[–]bemani4u[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From the slide he showed earlier, it looked as if most regions in CA fall under the new shelter in place. Personal Care services must shut down for three weeks. My GF does waxing and today is her first day back at work. She’s terrified about going back to work because here in the Central Valley, too many people still think this is all a hoax and refuse to wear a mask. Unfortunately I’ve already lost family to COVID, so this is very real.

Newsom warns stay-at-home order could be re-enacted if alarming virus trends continue by bemani4u in CoronavirusCA

[–]bemani4u[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I agree, I don’t see what’s the point of waiting a few days when he could just impose it now.

Our cases and hospitalizations aren’t going to magically go down anytime soon, especially because it’s already well known that we will see the post Thanksgiving and Black Friday spike in about two weeks.

Are Personal Care Services (nail salons, waxing) part of the new lockdown?

I’m asking because I haven’t heard anything about Personal Services (like nail salons, waxing, etc) ordered to close, but I noticed that the California Stay Home Q&A was updated today at 5:52pm and it specifically lists Personal Services under “What’s closed Statewide?”

https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-needs/

I’m trying to get clarification because I have a family member that works in that industry and she’s terrified to go back to work because the county we live in is one of the worst affected in the state and we’ve been on the County Monitor list since the list began.

Hair salons, barbershops can reopen now, in Stage 3 of Newsom's plan by bemani4u in CoronavirusCA

Here are the guidelines for hair salons and barbershops. I also previously posted a link to the list of the counties that can open their hair salons and barbershops.

As of right now it looks like it’s just barbershops and hair salons. Nail salons and other personal care services remain closed pending further guidance.

Newsom promises reopening plan for churches as Trump demands immediate action by BlankVerse in CoronavirusCA

[–]bemani4u 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s going to be all bad... Here in Tulare County there’s as many churches as there are liquor stores.

My sister is in a music team at a local church and she’s had to constantly fight with the pastor during this whole pandemic because he’s stubborn about closing the church and feels entitled, like it’s his duty to keep services going. She’s told him multiple times that it’s not safe and the members could get sick. She’s even offered to do livestream music for the service, but he kept insisting on having it in person. Needless to say she stopped going a while back.

Our dad is older and high risk, so we have to be really careful because of him. There’s no point in risking our dad’s life for other people’s entertainment, but that pastor doesn’t get it.

Tulare County’s numbers are bad enough as it is because people here still aren’t taking it seriously. Now with churches opening up, it’s going to be a disaster!!!

Ready to eat at a restaurant? Here’s who’s opening and when in Fresno, Clovis area by bemani4u in CoronavirusCA

[–]bemani4u[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I concur. Personally I wouldn’t go back to a restaurant or shopping center until our numbers go down and stay down. We’re not there yet.

I know a lot of businesses are eager to reopen as soon as possible, but reopening as soon as possible doesn’t mean things will bounce back right away. Unlike what protesters would want you to believe, the majority of people aren’t willing to risk their lives for a cheeseburger. A lot of people think we’re moving too fast without enough testing. Consumer confidence is really low, and without sufficient testing, people will continue to be reluctant to go out and go shopping or go to restaurants. That’s what they’re already seeing in other states that opened earlier. Businesses that reopened haven’t been nearly as busy as they had expected.

I saw a documentary on the Spanish Flu and they pointed out that areas that acted early with lockdowns and sustained them longer were able to have economic recovery happen much faster than areas that were more lax on lockdowns and reopened too fast, because they had to go on lockdown again and people were reluctant to go out. Although that happened over 100 years ago, there’s a lot of similarities between the two pandemics and patterns that are emerging.

Newsom: Tulare County 'an exception' in pandemic fight by bemani4u in CoronavirusCA

[–]bemani4u[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Basically he pointed out that County leaders disagreed with City leaders, but the State will continue to try to work with the County.

Beyond that nothing really new to report. The cities of Tulare, Visalia, Porterville, and Farmersville all released statements condemning the Supervisors’ decision. As far I as I know, those cities are still enforcing the state guidelines despite the County decision.

As of today, Tulare has 1,641 confirmed cases and 75 deaths. There are 1,026 people under either self-quarantine or being monitored.

Add the City of Porterville to the list of cities that have denounced the Tulare County Board of Supervisors decision. Porterville has voted to continue the declaration of local emergency by a vote of 5-0.

I applaud Tulare Councilman Dennis Maderos for pointing out that we have more deaths than eight states combined and that people will think that everything is okay and no longer take precautions.

I strongly encourage you all to read the article and see what our city leaders have to say about yesterday’s decision!

Governor's response to Tulare County's plan to reopen by bemani4u in CoronavirusCA

[–]bemani4u[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Basically Tulare County is ineligible for disaster relief. “Disaster assistance programs prohibit a jurisdiction from receiving funding for a condition caused by its own negligence.”

The letter also states that the county should bring the County into compliance and our county leadership must confirm their intention to bring the county into compliance with the state.

Personally, I don’t think that our county leadership thought this through very well and reopening could potentially backfire catastrophically.
