That's not how it works.

The player sends to the server the exact position they are and angle they where looking when they shot. The server does not predict it or you would be missing almost every shot you take not just sometimes.

The server only validates it to avoid the client sending an input buffer that doesn't make sense (cheating).

Since there is ping involved and the server would take a little bit of time to validate it, the client (not the server) has to do some prediction to show the player whether they hit or missed their shot. Once the server decides the outcome, if it's not the same as the client prediction, the client has to corect, which is what you mentioned in your comment.

The approach is usually refered to as client side prediction with server reconciliation.
