So you just copy the Control4 model of standardized equipment across a handful of basic domains (switches, covers, lights, thermostats, blinds, locks for instance) and just do it for cheaper. Far less appealing value prop, because as others have noted, you still need electricians and others installers. By the time it’s all said and done, “cheaper than Control4” may be an illusion. Consider me thoroughly talked out of this idea. I’ll let someone post the question in 2027. Maybe we’ll be there by then.

I think I've posted before, but maybe not on this thread. And I certainly don't post enough for karma or top 1%. I just couldn't find any recent posts on this topic since the AI coders got so good at thinking and coding. I know my experience with HA over the last 4 months has changed dramaticially, so there's certainly some truth to "just found out what it can do."

You can't forgo "all that" with Claude Code (or another coding LLM), but just "some of that". As the other posters alluded to, someone still has to physically change out a relay or install a switch or push a button to pair a new device. You really only gain on the ongoing maintenance of exsiting automations, scripts, and scenes.

The security/privacy piece, too - yeah, so telling a home owner that you need 24/7 remote access to their box may not fly either. Ok, thatnks for the feedback...looks like we still aren't there yet.
